Hi everyone!
With the deadline only a little over a month away, I figured we all need a place to stress, hope and worry! I just took my first stab at the TEAS and hit the average score of the past few years (335). I have a 3.9 GPA. One pre-req left. Applying for ABSN. I'm scheduled for a second TEAS attempt next month. How is everyone else doing? Drooling over stats as much as I am?? Any interview preparation plans?
It definitely can be more expensive. You have to look pretty hard. Also, a lot of times the school has a deal with area apartments and you can enjoy some discounts closer to campus.
As far as clinicals, mayo is close to the beaches, baptist beaches is...well, at the beach :)
Baptist south is in my area. Shands is on the northside. Baptist downtown, nemours, and wolfson's childrens are downtown.
St Vincents is in riverside, and one is at Southside, another is in Orange park.
Living wise, especially in the decent areas of Jacksonville (like Nursh detailed a few pages back) I really don't think living on the ground floor or in a house is anything terribly worrisome. I'm a single young lady and I don't worry at all about living alone in my house in Riverside, though it helps that I have very awesome neighbors who look out for my place when they know I'm away/etc. I lived alone on the ground floor in Gainesville for two years in a neighborhood very similar to my current one (historic neighborhood, well-kempt homes, not a gated community or anything) and knock on wood, didn't have any issues there either. Practicing safe home habits, locking doors, etc is generally enough of a deterrent. Most break-ins happen during the day (robbers know people are likely to be away from the home) and unless there is an easy point of access, a locked door/window usually keeps you safe.
I totally agree with Sarah! But if it will help you sleep better at night, pick an apartment complex on Hodges or San Pablo. Or Southpoint area. Anything on gate parkway is going to be nice. They're typically all gated, and most with a guard. Which is kind of pointless because they're all nice, safe areas!
Zou- I'm hoping to get an apt with someone from the program because I'm definitely apprehensive about living alone. I'm also hoping to live with someone who is open to maybe spending a little more on rent to live somewhere nice and safe :) we stayed at the aloft hotel off of gate pkwy for the interview and there were some very nice looking apts there that were gated and in more of the corporate area so that looks appealing. They were only about 10 minutes from campus and very close to the highways for clinicals as well. So, that's where I'm at for now :) I'm sure I read it already but can't recall. .. what other schools and programs are you looking at??

I would be open to talking about roommate ideas. I'll PM you. I've also applied to FSU, RCON in Orlando, and OHSU in Portland. Also Union Univ. in TN but I will only go there if I don't get in to any of the others. I would LOVE to go to Portland. I'm in love with the culture there, but that is one expensive city! A 300 sq. ft. studio is upwards of $1000+. And it is also the most expensive program that I applied for at 50k.
How about you?

Zou- I'll be in the same situation as my husband won't be moving up with me either. I'm with you on the peace and quiet of a retirement community haha! I'm 26 and definitely don't want to end up in a party/drunken nightlife area. I'm not positive but I think you'll be fine taking care of your animals with the hours from what I heard :)
