UNF fall 2012/summer 2012

Published

Anyone applying to UNF nursing program either for summer 2012 or fall 2012? I am interested to hear from fellow applicants or graduates about their experience in the program!

for those of you about to take the TEAS V test, here is a link to a bunch of practice questions for all the different subjects that I found very helpful. http://www.testprepreview.com/teas_practice.htm if you can understand and do all the math problems in this review your guaranteed to score very high on the math. the hardest part about the math section when taking the exam is time. every other section you will have ample time to complete and review your questions and answers. however in doing the math problems you'll lose track of how long you are on one problem if you get stuck. if you do not understand it right away move on to the next one and hopefully you will see a simliar problem to help make it click. to correct my TEAS scores from my last post I had an 87.5 in science and a 96.7 (thanks to review) in math. as for the science portion... that one is a little rough.(however an 87.5 as low as it seems is still in the 99th percentile.) there is a lot of material out of anatomy and physiology. organs, functions of systems, knowing parts of the cells. there will also be a lot of very random scientific fact questions that are kind of hard to interpret. its more about being logical in those cases than it is specifically knowing what they are talking about. there is also a lot of basic biology too. some easy genetics, cellular respiration, etc. the reading and english section are fairly straight forward. Just take your time, dont rush, study hard, and youll be golden. hope this helps.

Hi all! I also applied to the UNF summer nursing program. I don't have any back up plans, at first my options were either UNF of FSCJ and I was accepted into the FSCJ program for this fall but I declined it. I want to get into to UNF because I am planning to go back for my masters. I honestly don't feel like I will get into the summer term because I didn't do well on the TEAS at all but that was my fault for not studying, I do have a 4.0 GPA to compensate a little but still. If I don't get in, I will have more time to study and hopefully get in the fall term. A friend of mine is in her first semester of the UNF nursing program and she loves it!

I can't believe you turned down a seat in an RN program, competitive as they are!! with only "hope" of getting accepted into the program @ UNF. So many people would die to be in your shoes, but then again, you did open up a space for someone else, i guess. Good luck to you truly, and ^5 for having the guts to take a chance and step out on faith. I hope you get in @ UNF....

I know it was a tough decision to make but I'm not in a rush and do have a plan B if I don't get in next year. We plan to have a third child and take some time off... always nice to have a plan B:) I really wish the best of luck to everyone here.

I submitted my application to the university about 2 weeks ago and still have not received any type of N#.....i can't access the wings portal and its not letting me back into my application....is anyone else having the same issues? I thought it took three days to get that number?

Hey everyone :) I just wanted to chime in here and let you know that I am a current ABSN student at UNF. I am finishing up my 2nd semester in the program with only 1 final and a debate left, and I love this school. I got my original undergrad from UCF in Health Services Administration. I was originally accepted to both UNF and UCF and I ultimately chose UNF due to the size of the program and the school overall. There are only 27 students in my cohort and 45 in the Traditional program that started with us in the summer.

Our program is very intensive but so is the traditional program. The main difference between them, besides needing an existing bachelors degree, is that the way classes are taught is completely different. The first semester we had one class combined with the traditional students, which was health assessment, but that is the only class we had with them. Also, a lot of the classes that make the traditional program longer are combined for us into 1 class instead of 2 or 3, such as the traditional students taking Therapeutics I & II over 2 semesters while ABSNs take Nursing Competencies in 1 semester. A few of the other classes that I am currently finishing up are changing however for the next class which would be those of you applying for the ABSN in this summer. It will hopefully be better for you guys because our semester was quite tough and very busy, so I wish you guys luck.

I'm here if you have any questions :) Good luck to you all on getting in!

Hey there, I did get into FAMU, but after talking with my parents, I realized that it just wasnt a smart move for me.

I would have to take out student loans, and if I can get into eith FSCJ, ST Johns River State or UNF, then I wouldnt need loans. I dont want to spend my first years of being a nurse worrying about paying back loans, I want to be saving for grad school.

So I turned it down. I would love to get into UNF, just because I can get my 4yr in one straight shot instead of having to go RN-BSN.

I am so sorry things did not work out for you at FAMU, with that program being very competitive. They only accept 50 students per semester. But dealing with finances can be a "booger" However you lost me when you stated....... "I would love to get into UNF, just because I can get my 4yr in one straight shot instead of having to go RN-BSN" FAMU's traditional BSN program is the same as UNF's trad BSN program. You do not have to be an RN to apply. But you are on your way, and I feel you have a very good shot of getting in at UNF, being you have all of your pre-req's done, I remembered you said that, that was a huge factor at FAMU. Good luck :yelclap:
