Hello Everyone!
I am applying for UNF for Fall 2011 admission. Anyone else also applying for the Fall 2011 semester? Good luck to you all in your pursuits!
Kali
My TEAS score was 347 and my GPA was 3.68.
The average TEAS score of those invited to interview was 336 and the average GPA was 3.77.
700 applied, 550 were referred on to the nursing admistrator and about 144 were invited to interview. Of those, 45 got RPL spots and 27 got APL spots. Your pool should be smaller because there is no accelerated program starting in the fall.
Do not be afraid of the interview. It was not intimidating. They will have current nursing students there to talk to you in small groups before your interview. They will put you at ease and give you information about the program. Then you will go into a room with 4 other candidates and 3 panel members and you will all sit around the table in random order. They will ask questions and you will all answer in no particular order, just jump in when you want to answer. I would try to answer first a couple of times but NOT all the time. Be sure to have a few questions prepared to ask to them at the end of the interview.
Have some answers in mind for typical questions like why do you want to be a nurse, what are your accomplishments, how do you handle stressful situations. None of the questions are academic or medically related so there are no wrong answers. Just be geniune in your answers.
Dress professionally for the interview and arrive early. You will find out early the following week who gets selected (via mail). They will pick 15 or 20 for the waiting list and they will tell you if you are on the waiting list but they won't tell you your spot on the list. I do know that all 27 of those offerred APL spots accepted and I think almost all of the 45 RPL did. But, you never know what will happen inbetween acceptance time and the start of classes which is 6 or 7 weeks.
Let me know if you have any other questions and Good Luck!! Oh, and be prepared to spend a LOT of money if you get in!!! We need 17 books for the first semester alone....along with lots of supplies, a laptop and the list goes on!
FYI, the interview is half the battle...literally. It constitutes 50% of the deciding factor on whether or not you get accepted. That means don't show up to the interview, like one guy i saw, dressed in denim jeans, a t-shirt, and a jacket. Dress to impress!
Some questions i recall from my interview
1) Tell me alittle bit about yourself.
2) What do you think makes a good nurse?
3) Why do you want to be a nurse (This one will probably ALWAYS be asked)?
4) Describe a time where your integrity was checked.
5) Lastly, they asked us to briefly convince them why they should accept us into their program.
At the end of then interview they will ask if we have any questions...have one prepared.
Other tips i would PERSONALLY suggest:
- Don't sound reheorificed
- "because i want to help people" is a no brainer, so don't limit your "why i want to be a nurse" response to just that answer. They've probably heard it a THOUSAND times already.
- Don't dress like you are going to an Italian fashion show. There were a few people there that were dressed in very LOUD attire and had wild haird cuts.
- Dress conservatively.
- BE AGREEABLE.
- Like FLHUSKER said, don't always be the first to respond, and don't always be the last to respond.
- Wear minimal jewelry.
lol, i have many more, but this has gotten a bit long so i'll end it here. I remember that interview like it was yesterday, so ask if you have any questions.
I'm applying to the Fall 2011 RPL program at UNF, but I have a question concerning the criteria (pre-interview). Do they look at your cumulative GPA or your Pre-req GPA (in addition to your TEAS score) when they decide to give you an interview? I have a 357 total for my TEAS and I'm curious as to which GPA is going to be paired with that. Any additional information on the criteria would be helpful! Thanks!!

Dixie.....the overall GPA is only used to determine if you even qualify for the program (must be over a 2.9 for RPL and 3.0 for accelerated). Once you qualify for the program the overall GPA does not matter anymore and the only GPA they take into consideration is the pre-req GPA which is then paired with your TEAS score (as mentioned above) to determine who gets an interview.
Okay so I have a 4.0 GPA and just got a 311 on Teas (wow....I didn't realize how much simple math I had forgotten) So I have a 711....Thoughts???? This is stressful! Yikes
Yeah, the math was pretty simple. Math was the one section where i got a 100% on.
711 is a pretty competitive score. For the summer class, the average score was 714 for those that got an interview invite. Sounds like you'll most likely get one as well. Good job!

To Fall applicants: I went throught the interview process and was accepted to the RPL program (yay!!). Although I don't start until next month, I would be happy to answer any questions about the application/interview process, I know how stressful it is!!!
