The deadline to apply for UNF's Accelerated BSN program beginning Spring 2013 will be here before we know it (January 15, 2013), which is why I wanted to go ahead and start this topic now. Many of us are taking the TEAS V soon (if we have not already) and finishing up prerequisites (if needed), so I am sure we all have some questions or information to share with each other.
Hehe-the honey badger may not care, but I have a healthy amount of neuroses! It's the good kind-keeps me in check, from getting complacent and all I'll still feel a whole lot better with a letter actually in hand.
As for studying for the TEAS, there's an awesome "How I Studied for the TEAS" thread on here that I believe is stickied on that forum, along with the ATI study guide and practice tests and McGraw-Hill guide...all of those were really helpful. Science is the only thing that you really have to use something other than the ATI guide for.
sunbaby0811 - I agree with honeybadger, that ATI booklet and online exams are a must. In addition the McGraw Hill study guide with 5 tests in it is a perfect supplement.
Reading - ATI covers it well, but if you've forgotten the difference between the topic and the main idea for example McGraw Hill and plenty of free web sites cover this topic thoroughly. If you are rusty with this I would suggest finding some online reading quizzes to get you back into practice.
Math - ATI has this covered hands down. McGraw Hill will actually cover more than what you need for the TEAS V; such as geometry. But for me personally I found the review to be worth while even though it went into material not covered on the TEAS V. I felt it just made my math skills stronger. Especially since I haven't had a math clas in 20 or so years.
Science - Honeybadger is correct if you are rusty on your sciences. But if you've just finished your pre-reqs you will likely be fine between the ATI book and the McGraw book. I still have my Pearson A&P book and online access so the few things I struggled with I just went back to my text book. Plus McGraw Hill has an online supplemental to an out of date book [that is free, Animation: How Diffusion Works] that has some really nice short videos. I found the videos were great as far as refreshing my memory and reinforcing the material with audio and video.
Grammar - ATI's book is great on this. I have typed in the spelling on quizlet [Simple free learning tools for students and teachers | Quizlet]. If you care to study off of that I made it public, just set up your free account and then search TEAS V spelling. It is broken down into something like 11 sets to make them more manageable. I definitely used other sources though especially for things like subject verb agreement and dependent and independent clauses. I just felt I needed additional practice. There is tons of stuff on the internet to help with this such as grammar girl and quia.com. Here is an additional site for spelling and vocab practice [Free Online Interactive Spelling & Vocabulary Words Lists].
When you go to quizlet you will also see that there are tons of other study sets made by previous TEAS V test takers that covers all four subcategories.
My best advice for anyone preparing to take the TEAS is to be consistent in your studying. Don't wait until the last minute because the mental "freak-out" will consume you and you likely won't be prepared. I studied for about 3 months and I still battled nerves even though I had done 9 practice tests and numerous subject specific online practice quizzes. After your first practice test or two you will have a solid idea where your weaknesses are and you can study to your weaknesses.
Good Luck!!! :)
You guys are awesome!! I have the materials you listed which makes me feel better!! I'm going through the ATI book right now - about half done. Will do the online tests and the McGraw next. I'm a little rusty on biology but nothing I can't put back into my brain lol. Is there any micro? I'm taking that this summer as my last class (I'm in Ap2 right now...)
Anyway thanks for taking the time to type all that up and link it! I will look at the links when I'm on u computer this week and not my phone!
sunybaby0811 - I don't remember seeing much micro on there. The one question that pops up consistently on the practice quizzes and the actual test is regarding serial dilution so be sure you know how that works. Maybe some other folks remember other micro question topics that showed up...

There isn't a lot of strictly microbio stuff on the TEAS but there are concepts that microbio class might be helpful with such as immunology, B cells, T cells, etc. Chances are you have probably learned about this stuff elsewhere so not taking micro won't hurt you too much. All science topics on the TEAS are covered in the McGraw hill book but the test sometimes is more in depth. So my suggestion is just use the McGraw book as a review and for topics you don't know thoroughly, do a little research online and make sure you fully understand them. YouTube has great instructional videos that I found very helpful :)
hi everyone-
i have also applied to UNF's summer 2013 entry for the ABSN program!
my pre-req GPA is: 3.91
my TEAS score is: 82.7% (overall)
hoping my pre-req GPA will help me in terms of having a lower TEAS score.. my cum. GPA is also lower than my pre-req GPA.. it'll be interesting to see what happens!
The overall GPA is just a minimum requirement and not part of the evaluation ranking right?! My 1st bachelors I did ok (above a 3.0, at least..) but I was "let's just graduate". My pre req GPA is smokin though!!! I'm not even applying for summer and I'm a nervous wreck! I want this do badly!! Good luck to all the summer applicants!!!

I'd love to know what y'all are doing/did to prep for the TEAS. I am applying for fall. I feel solid about my pre-req GPA but the teas has me freaking! I think I will take it sometime in February so I can stop worrying about it!!
