What specialty do you want and not want to work in?
thanks for the clarification.. for some reason i thought SNF meant something similar to a long-term rehab facility for people who have conditions such as spinal cord injuries, or the like (in my home state, i know of someone who went to one due to a spinal injury and she is in her 20s).. i dont know what else to call it, but that is what i meant!

Financial aid available in FL
are you talking about the HRSA scholarship? it is a federal scholarship that you apply for once you've been accepted to nursing school and they pay for your tuition/living expenses (not sure what percentage) and then once you've graduated, you owe them service at a rural or low-income facility (i think 2 yrs but again, not sure). i havent looked into it but i know a few people who have applied.. also not sure how competitive it is. i think the application has to be turned in before may.. not sure how that'd fit with your timeline, but it's another financial option that i've seen around this website and from others. google HRSA nurse scholarship and you should see the link.. good luck!

What to Look for in a ABSN Program?
im in my second term of an ABSN program and i researched A LOT before applying and deciding where to go. in my experience, i made sure all of the programs were accredited.. some of the programs were heavily focused on community/leadership and didnt offer as many rotations (community health, med surg and psych were offered for all, but some didnt offer OB or peds separately ( it was wrapped into one unit, and all but 1 offered critical care). i looked up the program schedule of all classes offered for all terms in the program and then looked up definitions in the course catalog or tried to contact someone in admissions/SON. my current program offers a critical care rotation, which none of the others i applied to offered, and that is one reason why i chose it. it also helped to contact people who either went through the program, attended the school or lived in the area so i could gauge the reputation of the school as a whole and the program too. disorganization and lack of resources were other things i tried to educate myself on. i believe pharm and/or patho was included in the program list of all schools i looked at except for 1. my school splits pharm across 3 terms. i also looked at the layout of the program - what will you be doing your first term? how many credits? we started with 2 classes in a 6 week session.. i liked "easing" into the program rather than being thrown into 15+ credits over one summer period! hope that helps - good luck!

Washington State University BSN program
hi! i also applied to WSU's program as a transfer student. i received an invitation to interview this weekend but i am declining it since i already accepted a seat in an accelerated program.. hopefully that'll open up a spot for someone! i received my first degree from WSU and it is bittersweet not getting another degree from them but an accelerated program was my first choice! good luck to everyone!

wow i didnt realize how small our class would be.. i was thinking like 25-30! i wonder if its because we meet up with the traditional and transfer BSN students in the fall, schedule-wise (i think that's how it works?) i was looking at the size of the summer classes we have to take and theres 2 sections for each one so i THOUGHT there would've been more in the 2nd degree program cuz im not sure who else would be taking summer classes. it'll be interesting to see how many come to orientation. im emailing you back now!

the deposit is $300 and i dont think there is access to the checklist off the regular website.. it was sent to everyone in an email from the SON. it's like 6 pages long but has everything you need, like remaining requirements for admissions (final transcripts, etc), financial aid contact info (specific aid counselors), registering for classes and a list of all classes required for the program, a checklist specifically for the SON (immunization & medical form, background check, CPR class), orientation info, living arrangements, nursing school supplies and important dates. the SON is supposed to be sending us a more detailed packet regarding the last few things on that list.. good luck!!

yay! i look forward to your email.. i have been communicating with a few others who were on the housing list that was sent out but i was surprised that that list wasn't too long.. it's crazy that this program starts so soon.. i have not secured a loan yet and am trying to get the financial aid office to call me back and im starting to panic! have you been told total costs for summer term? do you know if you apply for loans just for summer term since its technically part of the 2012-2013 school year and then re-apply for more loans later on for the 2013-2014 school year (fall 2013 and later)? or do you apply for everything all at once? ive never borrowed money for school before and am confused because everything is separated by school year. yes, i am doing student insurance through the school. i think its cheaper versus taking out a private plan and i won't be working so i obviously wont have a plan through employment lol

i am looking forward to the CPR class and finally getting to meet you & all of our other classmates! my family is from Jax area and my g-parents still live there (out near Ponte Vedra). i chose to apply to JU and UNF (as well as schools out here on the west coast), but JU felt more welcoming and more of the right type of environment i wanted to be in. i declined an interview to UNF and hoped that JU would accept me and they did :) if you want to exchange any information not on here (contact info, class info, etc) feel free to email me at [email protected]! im actually surprised there aren't more people on this board! oh and i dont even want to THINK about the NCLEX right now!! one step at a time!

yes, i guess we are officially considered JU nursing students! sounds surreal but i am excited :) i am not CPR certified yet, so I also requested to have my name put on the list for the class. i was going to get it done here, but i figured most schools have you do a class if you aren't certified so i'm glad i waited. i received an initial scholarship from JU when i first applied to the nursing program, but have not applied for any more. i will be doing government and private loans to cover everything else. i need to figure out all of that stuff next week actually so im not racing to get funding at the last minute. have you looked at the times available for classes for the summer sessions yet? are you doing loans/scholarships too? this program is going to go by FAST, at least for summer sessions!

i paid the deposit yesterday but have not yet activated my student account. did you pay yours yet? i am probably going to try to live in the on-campus apartments for the summer sessions and then move into an actual off-campus apartment for fall semester going foward so im not rushed with trying to sign a lease and everything that comes with an apartment. im not even going to be in town for a week prior to orientation and i have to get a car and that will be my priority! where will you be living? i think you mentioned youre from Jax.. are you already settled or will you be moving closer to campus?
