Anyone else planning to apply to UNCG's nursing program in December? If so, what are your stats? Nervous yet excited about submitting an application! I've heard the program is pretty competitive. After some research UNCG has become one of my top choices.

Hello! I will be starting summer 2017 under the Veteran's Access Program at UNCG. I currently have 4.0 GPA on all pre-reqs, however I'm taking Chemistry and Stats at a local community college this semester and it is killing me. What are your stats? I hope to see you next summer. Good luck.
Hi kmcelroy86! Congrats on already being accepted into the program! I am not completely familiar with the Veteran's Access Program but I know a little about it! Chemistry is a hard course. So glad that's behind me now. I am sure you will do great! My overall GPA is a 3.4 and my prerequisite GPA is about the same. I've been told most students admitted have somewhere between a 3.4-3.5, but it really depends on the applicant pool... it could be higher. I was accepted to a nursing program in Virginia about two weeks ago and put down my enrollment deposit. If I get into UNCG I might reconsider.
The process for VAP is a little different but at minimum you have to have at least 3.0 on the pre-req courses just like traditional admission. So is the school in Virginia for Summer or Fall 2017? I applied to a local community college close to Charlotte for LPN to RN program, but my heart is with UNCG already.
The college in Virginia starts in May 2017. I was recently accepted to the nursing program at my local community college as well but turned it down when I heard I was accepted to a BSN program. One less step I'd have to take since I was planning on getting my BSN eventually anyway. UNCG would be great financially for me, but if I don't get in I always have the school in VA. I haven't applied to UNCG as a student yet. I was told I could apply directly to the nursing school in December, and if I'm accepted, I can apply to UNCG as a second degree student. So I'm doing it that way to save some money. Since I won't have to pay an application fee just yet.
Same here. I found out I was accepted into the program this summer, but I had to wait until the 2017 application came out to apply to the University, which I did in September. I recently found out I was accepted into the University last week. Now I have to apply to the scholarship through my employer, which is very generous. But with the scholarship I will be able to focus on school full time while still getting my salary.
kmcelroy86, good luck with your scholarship! I am sure you will get it! It sounds like everything is falling into place for you! How exciting! Are the VAP students mixed in with all the other BSN students, or do the VAP students have their own cohort? If we are all mixed in, how many VAP students does the program accept? I know UNCG also does priority admission for students who are rising juniors about to go into the clinical phase. If the students have a cumulative 3.5 GPA and a 3.5 in their prerequisites they will automatically get a clinical spot. I was told that typically there are 20-25 students who meet that requirement. The program only has room for about 130 students total from what I understand.
Its starting to feel like everything is falling in place. Ive wanted this for so long. The VAP students are mixed in with other BSN students. There are about 30 slots for those students which were approved by the boardent of nursing.
kmcelroy86, how long after your UNCG application (to the general university) was considered complete did you find out your admission decision? I was told by admission that it typically takes about 2 weeks before a student hears anything. I was not sure if there was a possibility it could be less than 2 weeks. I would like to know my status before I did the supplemental nursing application in December. Although I originally was going to apply the other way around (supplemental first and university application later), I changed my mind. I just want to get it out of the way. Did you get an email letting you know your admission status was available on your SpartanLink portal or did you just keep checking periodically?
Submitted my nursing application! Super early I know lol! I'm so eager! Fingers crossed! March is going to be such a long wait!
Is anyone else who has applied to the general university having trouble waiving out of health insurance? The waive window is open for students who have their own private policy to go in and enter that info so that they will not have to get health insurance through the school. I'm not enrolled in classes since I don't plan to enroll unles accepted to the nursing program. Every time I try to enter my info to log in and waive on the BCBS website it tells me my student ID and birthdate are wrong, both of which I have verified with admissions and I am entering them correctly. I was accepted to the university back in November. Wondering if I'm missing something.
Yes I am having the same issue. It keep telling me my info is wrong.
