Hey, all! Since today is the day the ABSN application closes for UNC, I figured I would start a thread so we could see who else applied. I graduated in May from NC State with a bachelor's in public relations. I took my prerequisite science courses at State (since I decided I wanted to pursue nursing late into my Junior year) and finished out my degree. I've been working at UNC hospitals as a CNA since I graduated. Waiting until August is going to drive me nuts! Is anyone else applying to other programs? As far as January start dates go I think only Duke has sent out acceptances, but I didn't apply there. Hope to hear from some of you and go through the wait together!
Hey everyone,
I can also confirm from the associate director of admissions herself that they are working hard to send out letters the week of Oct 13th. I too was at that info session and those were her exact words. I believe they are selecting approximately 64 students from the 300 or so applicants. As always, letters should be mailed out first and then our portals online will be updated. I think in previous years if you were a UNC student they let you pick up your letters before they are mailed out at the SON. I wonder if they'll let you do the same as an hospital employee. Regardless, it's coming up soon! I wish everyone much luck!
Just wanted to say hi to everyone! Cannot wait to find that letter in my mailbox! Good to know it should be soon.
I graduated from NCSU in 2005 with a major in English and minors in Classics and Creative Writing and worked as an book and magazine editor and high school English teacher up until this year.
I began volunteering in hospice care in 2004 and have worked as a doula for several years. I love, love, love maternal-fetal care and am active in the UNC volunteer doula program. It was a huge leap of faith to take on the prerequisites and apply to the ABSN, but I am really excited to fulfill a dream that's been brewing for quite some time.
Good luck, everyone!
Hi everyone!
I've been reading this thread for awhile and thought i'd finally comment! I can't believe we are going to possibly find out next week, so nerve racking! I graduated last year from UC San Diego with a degree in Psychology. My gpa from that degree was pretty low but I received all A's in the nursing prereqs. I now live in Florida, does anyone know how UNC feels about out-of-state applicants?
Good luck everybody!!
Hi everyone! I was so happy I stumbled upon this!
My name is Sarah, I'm 24 and applied for ABSN program as well. Getting SUPER nervous.
I graduated from Wingate University in 2012 with a degree in Athletic Training so more like sports injuries, prevention, and rehabs. I volunteered 1300 hours of my time to the AT program there. Although I currently work as a nanny due to better pay and benefits, I am still nationally certified as a trainer and spend time working tournaments and such on weekends.
I volunteer at a local waterfowl rescue as well. I redid all my pre-reqs while working to ensure I remembered everything :)
I did the residency log a few weeks ago because I am originally from MD but moved down in 2008 for college. So hopefully that turns into instate because out of state is 70k!
Best of luck everyone!!!
My mom reminded me today that October 13th is a postal holiday (Columbus day). So if the letters are actually mailed on Monday, we'd probably start getting them on Wednesday or Thursday of this coming week! Eek! In the past couple years it looks like some portals were updated before they got letters. Either way, fingers crossed that we get some news in the next couple days
