Hey, all! Since today is the day the ABSN application closes for UNC, I figured I would start a thread so we could see who else applied. I graduated in May from NC State with a bachelor's in public relations. I took my prerequisite science courses at State (since I decided I wanted to pursue nursing late into my Junior year) and finished out my degree. I've been working at UNC hospitals as a CNA since I graduated. Waiting until August is going to drive me nuts! Is anyone else applying to other programs? As far as January start dates go I think only Duke has sent out acceptances, but I didn't apply there. Hope to hear from some of you and go through the wait together!
Hi All,
I, too, have applied to the UNC ABSN program for 2015. I think it's safe to say I'm the oldest applicant on this thread. I graduated from UNC in 1997 with a BS in biology, then went on to get a masters in microbiology at Clemson, graduating in 2001. For the past 13 years I have worked in research (immunology, cancer cell biology) and am now looking to begin a new career in nursing, specifically oncology nursing. Since it had been so long since I'd been in school I had to take all of the science pre-reqs and just finished those this summer. I am SO nervous about getting in. I have the science background but a little worried that I don't have enough consistent volunteer work. The wait is going to kill me! Glad to have you all to wait with :)
Hi everyone! I am thinking of applying to the BSN and ABSN program at UNC. Does anyone know how financial aid works? The tuition looks to be more than the stafford loan limit and as a second degree student, I won't qualify for federal grants. Just wondering if it's even worth me applying or if many accepted students get UNC scholarships or something to bring the cost down. I don't think I'll be willing or able to take out private student loans if that's what they make you do. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hopefully sooner rather than later! I was looking at last years thread for this program and it seemed that they got their answers the third week of October. However, two years ago the applicants heard back as early as October 10th. Crossing my fingers that time flys by! Good luck to everyone, be sure to post if you hear anything!
I applied for the ABSN program spring 2015 cohort! I graduated from ECU in May of 2013 with a bachelors degree in Health Education. I moved to DC right after graduation and worked as a Health Educator and Fitness Specialist. I worked as a student assistant through college and have much nursing assistant experience. I am really hoping to get in! I have continuously pursued nursing and I am ready to get my BSN! I actually just interviewed for a per-diem nursing assistant position at UNC hospital last week so now I am waiting to hear from UNC and from UNC Healthcare!
