UNC ABSN applicants - Spring 2014

Published

Hi everyone,

I wanted to start a thread for those of us applying for UNC's ABSN program starting in January 2014. There is another thread on here, but it looks like it's only about Duke's applicant pool. I know the application isn't due until August 10th, but when I applied to Duke for the fall I found talking to others in the same situation helped with my nerves! :)

I hope everyone's application is going well so far! Let's keep each other updated on how things are going throughout the process and share information as we go. Good luck to everyone!!

Thanks @zennurse :) that makes me feel hopefully that ill be taken off the waitlist as well, Congratulations again! I'm keeping my fingers crossed & TarheelGirlx3 is right, usually because we have degrees all we are eligible is federal and private loans.. Luckily UNC is much less than another program I was accepted to, they only offered me $16,000 in aid which left a whopping $52,000 for me to come up with so that's why I'm hoping I can get accepted and go to UNC :D

@zennurse, are you in state or out of state?

Congrats to everyone who got in and goodluck to everyone who is still waiting!

I was just wondering if anyone was looking into housing for next semester? I want to ideally find a cheap but homey place with some lovely ladies to live with. I just graduated from UNC this year, so I am pretty familiar with the places around campus. For those of you new to UNC, GET EXCITED. I love this school. I have always been really close with my roomates/apartment mates, so I'm looking for friends, not just people to live with. I'm going to the November 2 pre-orientation session if anyone is interested in meeting up before or afterwards. :)

I'm from out of state, and by the looks of the tuition, I do not think I will be accepting admission here. My cousin was also accepted and we both will be declining. I wish the best of luck to you all. It's a darn shame to because I really wanted to see the state. Anyway, good luck!

@UNC415, I 'm in the same boat as you..just graduated from UNC in May and cant wait to get back! I'm also looking for housing, and I am thinking I want to find a sublet for the spring semester and then sign a year lease somewhere from may 2014-may 2015. I will be at orientation this Saturday and would love to meet you! Just let me know!

PS..any places in particular you wanna live?

Oh I should mention I previously lived at university commons..very nice 4BR/4BA for ~430-450 a month ..utilities are included. Plus the buses that stop there drop off at the hospital, health science library and Carrington Hall. Let me know what you think!

Hey! I might be interested in some roommates! I've been debating living alone versus with people and would love to meet up with a few of you if you also are interested. I'm 26 and brand new to chapel hill and would love to get to know some of you already familiar with the area! I'll be at pre-orientation on Nov 2nd and could meet up after if that works for anyone else. Let me know :)

Good Luck @zennurse :) I'm sure you'll be an asset to any program you go to :D best of luck to you!!

@TarheelGirlx3 I like university commons! I had a friend that lived there and would totally be down with looking into it. I was thinking along the same lines of a spring semester sublet and then finding a more permanent place for the next year as well. We could meet up before orientation for lunch if you (or anyone else who is interested!) are free?

@38pearl I'll be at pre-orientation then as well and would love to meet! Would you be free by any chance before pre-orientation instead of after? I'm gonna post a mass email on the thread to see who is free for lunch so that we can all head to orientation together afterwards. If you can't do before though, we can figure something else out. I look forward to meeting you!

@UNC415 Unfortunately, I won't be able to meet before pre-orientation. I had already set up appointments to view some apartments before I can across this thread so I don't want to cancel them. But I'll see you at the pre-orientation and maybe we can chat for a bit afterwards!

Also, I'd love to chat with everyone in the program too just to get to know more people before we all start this journey in January!!

Hello Everyone, I just got pulled from the waitlist! I had a question about the background check, how do we go about getting it done. I now feel like I'm so far behind lol.. If anyone would still need a roommate for the spring semester, I'd love to hear from anyone :) and also anyone who has been in contact with financial aid as well. thanks in advance

Yay!! So happy and excited for you! For the background check we had to sign a form and give payment ($40, I believe). I would hope they would include all this in the paperwork they'll be sending you. I know several people had listed things about roommates on the FB page, so you may want to try that if you are on there. :) Just search for "UNC ABSN '15" and you will see the group to join.
