UMSON fall 2016 hopefuls ?

Published

Hello all, I am planning to apply to UMSON in the fall 2016. I haven't seen a thread yet for other hopefuls and potential candidates. So I wanted to start one.

CNL folks, I decided to contact Ms. Jackson today to check on my application status since I haven't heard anything and she mentioned that they hadn't called me because one of the courses they "pay close attention to" is (Chemistry), which I'm currently completing...I assured her that I will be receiving an "A" or "B" in the course. She told me I should be hearing something within the next two weeks... *waiting patiently*

We're all rooting for you Kayrock!! Hang on!! ❤️❤️

Eta: do you have another school you applied to?

Thanks, Quiet Sunshine, means a lot :)

I applied to MC'S ADN program but that's all. It's not my first choice but I want to get the ball rolling on school (especially since I'm going back for a second degree) so if I don't get accepted into USG I'll have to suck it up and do the ADN program and continue on for an RN-BSN program afterward. I guess the good thing about that is that the hospital I work at has some sort of partnership with Montgomery College so I would have that going for me. Either way, I hope nursing school is in the cards for me this fall!

Not surprise about chemistry. It seems to trip a lot of people out. In my class out of 30 students, there's only 12 of us left :0

Did you see the agreement that MC has with UMSON? You can take your nursing class at shady grove while going to mc as well! And since you have all of your prerequisites done for the bsn, all you have left are your nursing classes! I talked to the coordinator of the dual admission program, and you will end up at shady grove as well! But keep your hope!

Do they really pay close attention to Chemistry? I earned a C in chem last year but have an overall 3.5 GPA in the rest of my sciences. Now I am worried.....

Wow, I actually didn't know about that agreement! I'm really happy you mentioned that! At least now I have a better idea of where I'll be at if I don't get admitted to USG for this application cycle... And knowing I *could* be admitted in the future, just not in the way I expected to ;)

I'm applying for BSN at UMSON for Fall 2016 as well. They changed the status to "Committee Ready", and haven't updated yet. One of my friend already got accepted and she applied in Jan. I submitted my application in Nov. This makes me nervous now :(

Yes my friend, here's the link to the MC page, check it out University of Maryland School of Nursing

Many of the nursing ADN classes are prerequisites, which you already have, so it won't take you as much time.

Which program did you apply to? BSN or CNL?

And I honestly don't know how close they pay attention to chemistry, cause I'm taking it right now and I got in already. But it is one of those classes that many universities use to weed out their students, especially pre-med students lol

Oh my goodness, I wish I had done my research about this pathway! You are the best, Quiet Sunshine!! I have much less anxiety about everything now :). Still hoping to get admitted to UMSON, but if not, I at least I have a little more certainty if I don't. Seriously, thank you so much, I really really appreciate it!

You're welcome Kayrock! You can make an appointment with the lady that has her info at the bottom of the page, and she can take a look at your transcript and see specifically what classes you will be taking where and for how long. I met with her late last fall cause I had zero hope for UMSON lol, but she was really nice and helpful. Of course, I do hope to see you get in for UMSON, but your alternative is a good one too.

Also, I believe you can apply to UMSON as early as the end of the first semester at MC.

BSN... terribly worried now.
