UMSON CNL Spring 2017

U.S.A. Maryland

Hey everyone!

Just got confirmation that my application is complete and ready to roll for the UMD CNL Spring 2017 application term. Anyone else on here applying?

I was an English literature major, so I went into editorial work. Then I got my MLS (library science) and have been a librarian for nine years. I think what you could bring to table with a fine arts background is pretty interesting and useful!

@BmoreHealthy

Just to UMSON. Not having to take a GRE was a great selling point, not having to write 5 essays was appealing. Plus with the UMSON program, you can take the CNL exam at the end of the program. Can't do that with the JHU program.

I am a photo major. I went to Towson. Did you have an interview yet?

No I haven't gotten an email about an interview yet, but I just got my application submitted Jul 1. You? I was a design major at MICA. And yeah those JHU essays were awful! I'm still undecided between the two programs but honestly I'm just waiting to see if I get into either, before I worry too much about choosing one.

You don't think you will be penalized because your application was late?

I had my interview yesterday.

So traditionally their deadline has been September 1, it's only this year that they moved it up. When I talked to them at the end of June they still didn't have a ton of applicants so I was told there was still room. We'll see. I think despite what they said, you and everyone else that applied earlier are definitely better positioned than I am. How do you think your interview went? Crossing my fingers for you!! :)

I wonder if even 50 people applied to the program since they gave you permission to apply after the deadline.

I was a bit disappointed with the interview. The faculty member wasn't a CNL faculty member. The admissions director seemed distracted. Also, it was hard for me to talk about myself on command like that. It was hard for me to write my essay even. So we will see. But if not many people applied, we all should have a good chance!

@bmorehealthy I submitted all my materials on June 8th (ready for review) and approximately June 16th (committee ready) and I still haven't received an interview email... the whole process is extremely random. I don't believe there is a exact formula for how they pick the cohort...All we can do is wait! Thanks everyone for the interview feedback! It makes it seem less intimidating.

I also applied just recently and waiting for a response about an interview. My friend is in the program and explained how the process worked for her so I guess I will just wait and see. After looking back at other post and forums it doesn't seem to be conducted the same each cycle. But @erinwhit, I do know that Dr. Cooke/Cook (sp) is a faculty member for CNL because my friend has has her class. I think she teaches both CNL and BSN. Good luck everyone

Ah, I was told she was a BSN instructor. Thanks for the info. What did your friend say about the process?

@erinwhit, well her process was a little different because they didn't have rolling admission..I applied last cycle and was not admitted, but I think it was because I waited to long to apply and the fact that my instructor sent in my letter of reference late. I understand that this is a rolling admission cycle and they admit throughout the entire cycle until the seats are full. When I called Ms. Jackson said that the review process started on June 15th so I think we are all relatively early in the process. When I came in for my interview, there was another faculty member and Ms. Jackson that was in my interview. Interview went okay. I think I messed up on my timed essay :( and had anxiety that day so Im sure I didn't do as well as I could of. Faculty and Mrs. J seemed actually quite pleasant and managed to answer my long list of questions I had

What kind of questions did you asked? What were the answers? I asked about class size, student groups, if all professors are RNs, and about the CNL exam after the program.

Is anyone going to the info session tomorrow morning?
