UMSON CNL Fall 2021

Published

Hi, future nurses!!  Has anyone applied to the UMSON CNL program for Fall 2021?

Sure thing! I was in the same boat for a while bc I hadn’t heard from Maryland yet. I feel like I’m way more familiar with Maryland the school (I toured the school twice). I know a few people who have gone through the UMB program and have enjoyed their time there.

I applied to Hopkins on a whim not really expecting to get in but I really can’t justify the cost of attendance even with a scholarship. I like the fact that Maryland offers the CNL certification and feel like it’s kind of a 2 for 1 deal. Not sure if I want to pursue becoming an NP at this point but taking out less in loans by going to Maryland makes that more of a possibility I think.

Thank you so much for sharing! I was considering all those things too (CNL, becoming an NP, etc.). The Hopkins name is great, but UMSON also has a good nursing program (#22 overall and #2 CNL), so ultimately I don’t think there’s going to be a difference on the other side.

If it helps at all, my friend went to Hopkins for their MSN program and said honestly the only perk to it she’s really had professionally is that people are impressed when she says she went to Hopkins. So if I were you I’d say save the money and go to UMSON! That’s the main reason I didn’t apply to Hopkins- too expensive and not a significant amount of perks from going there.

I'm telling myself its not over until I get a rejection letter haha, but yes hopefully we hear back soon!

Definitely agree, it’s not over yet! I originally heard that you should expect to hear back 4 weeks after your interview date (I interviewed 2/18), so I wasn’t expecting to hear back until this week. I’m rooting for you guys!

This helps a ton thank you for confirming! I was also speaking to Hopkins alumna today and she said pretty much the same thing. She mentioned Hopkins hospital is always hiring and being a student there doesn’t necessarily translate into a job (which surprised me).

Right! They are always hiring. Though you make less working at Hopkins because of the notoriety, which is dumb. But I’ve heard UMSON students get multiple job offers before they even graduate. So hospitals know UMSON makes good nurses.

would anyone who received acceptances/interview invites mind sharing their GPA/stats/experience?

has anyone heard anything recently! I'm thinking about calling their office today since I interviewed about 4 weeks ago and haven't heard back ?

I actually received an interview invitation on Friday. I scheduled it for March 24th but haven't received my conformation or writing assignment. I tried calling just now and it went directly  to voicemail. I'm going to try to connect to someone on the website via chat.

Thank you! I'm hoping they send it to me later today. They sent me the interview invitation after 6pm on Friday. I was so surprised because I thought they were on Spring Break.

Hey Everyone,

I've followed the thread for awhile but have been fairly quiet. I had my interview on 2/13, thought it went OK. The writing sample was a little stressful but overall OK I guess.

This morning I received an email from the University of Maryland IT team asking me to create a UMID (student ID), not sure what that is about. Has anyone else gotten this? The email says the ID is used to access financial aid stuff, registration, etc... It is also says in bold letters "This is not an acceptance letter". Was a little confused what this was about.

Anyone else get this today?
