UMSON CNL Fall 2015

Published

Hey Guys!

There's already a general group for applicants for Fall 2015, but since the majority are applying to the BSN program, I wanted to start this thread for people applying to the CNL program.

So...who's applying with me? :)

I'm feeling the same way, except I only applied to UMSON. No other CNL programs in MD.

I was positive when I knew no one had heard from them. Then again, I thought I read on the website everyone who met minimum requirements would be granted an interview.

Interview invitations went out over a week or so period, if I remember correctly. Try not to let the knowledge that someone has an interview and you don't (yet) worry you. I know that's impossible, just trying to help.

We survived the weekend. And now another buisness day down...did anyone hear about an interview today?

I was glued to my phone all day. Trying really hard to keep my mind occupied. Obviously not working to well.

I still haven't heard anything yet and my application status hasn't changed!

Ok so I just spoke with one of my classmates who also applied CNL (and who's not on this forum) and he said that he had his interview last week! I was so shocked because my application status still has not changed. I'm going to call them, I'm wayyyyy to frustrated not too!

I called them Tuesday and was told that I just had to wait it out. That they are rolling admissions and they are in the midst of interviews.

I still haven't heard anything and my status has not chaged either.

I can't believe that we would not qualify at least for an interview considering it states clearly on the website everyone who meets minimum requirements gets one.

I'm extremely frustrated too, especially since this is my only application.

I was able to speak to the coordinator and had a very lengthy but clarifying conversation. Let me start off by saying that she is currently battling asthma and seasonal allergies and as a result is not answering the phone much in order to focus all of her attention to processing more applications.

As you stated, yes we do have to wait but based on our conversation we should be hearing something by the middle of April. She stated that they hope to send out decisions by the 1st week of May so in order to do so, interviews must be done by the 3rd week in April. She was also kind enough to clarify the process for me. Apparently the applications (which is usually around 200 for CNL and 400-500 for BSN) is bundled into chunks and goes through a computer system. The computer then compiles a list that is in alphabetical order. Once that list is complied, they process the application, send it to the committee for review and then request interviews. So yes the process is partly alphabetical but there is no particular order to determine which applicants goes into which particular batch. So in our cases, it is the luck of the draw that our applications weren't within the first batches, but since it is a rolling admissions process that does not mean that we are out of the running. As long as you submitted your application before Feb 2 and you meet the minimum requirements, it will be looked at by the committee which should lead to an interview.

Keep in mind too that UMSON has a very slow process compared to other schools. Other schools use an automated system but UMSON does everything manually and unfortunately there aren't very many people to process the over 1,000 applications they receive per cycle for the different programs. To add to that, they were on Spring Break last week, so nothing was done. Because I applied last year I knew that the wait would be long, however, this year instead of reviewing all of the applications at one time and then determining who gets an interview, they are chunking the applications, which makes the wait harder (but not necessarily longer).

I will say that for me personally, once I found out that someone I actually knew outside this forum received an interview and I hadn't heard anything, I was worried that my application somehow did not meet the qualifications and I would not hear anything because I was going to be rejected. She was very kind to assure me that my transcripts were fine and that I meet all of the requirements (based on a preliminary review). By doing this she assured me that it was not by my own merits (or what I thought was a lack thereof) that I didn't hear anything, they are still trying to process applications as quickly as possible because May is just around the corner and decisions must be sent out.

I hope this helps!

Awesome! Thanks so much PinkEagle. Huge sigh of relief. :)

I finally got the "Committee Ready" status (YAYYYY!!), but funny enough, this time it wasn't listed next to 'Application Status' but instead in was listed next to 'Decision'...guess they're doing something new this year!

Congrats! Hope you hear about an interview soon. My status still says Complete Ready for Review and I don't have decision anywhere on my screen.

I first want to thank you for setting this all up. I too have applied for the Fall 2015 CNL program and being able to hear from everyone has truly helped with all the nerves. Congrats on your new status and fingers crossed for the call for the interview.

I wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind sharing what your last name starts with ? I know someone else mentioned something about alphabetical order.

I received an email today that said to log on to my application but nothing was changed. It seemed automatic but strange because nothing was different. Has anyone else received an email like that?

Thanks all!

My last name starts with an 'N' so I would have been further down the list. So when I get married I hope to marry someone who's last name starts with 'A'!!;)

I haven't received any email correspondence from the school at all, not even promotional emails. I found out about my status change by logging on to the SIMS Portal.
