Hi everyone! I created the BSN Fall 2013 topic, but I couldn't apply at that time due to family issues. So now I'm applying for Spring 2014! Anyone else applying? :]
Congrats to meowbark and sjsimmons!INFO: (Got my call today.) If you haven't heard, orientation for Baltimore is scheduled for sometime around the second week in January. NURS333 lab groupings were withdrawn from the class schedule and will likely be re-posted once Spring folks are matriculated into the system. (Got my fingers crossed for the schedule of my choice.
)
Financial aid, getting an id, buying books (they do not have a book voucher system; so budget to have money for books before the semester starts)- so much to do.
I'm seriously thinking about buying a tablet and loading textbooks so I don't have to carry them. Barnes and Nobles' Nook Study only let's you download books on a PC BUT you can print from it. Best of all, they actually RENT electronic copies of books.
The new Kindle HDX displays actual pages but I haven't seen where you can print pages or notes from it. Also, there's no USB plugs so you can't print or use thumb drives. Really...?! I didn't see where you can rent Kindle versions either, so you might only be able to buy.
With that in mind, I'm contemplating one of those 2-in-1 notebooks with touchscreens that fold almost flat like a tablet. hmmm...
That's all I got.
Adressing the kindle, I use the kindle app on my ipad and yu can put yur books in the cloud, and view from pc, that way you could probably print or screenshot/print. Some kindle textbooks (maybe all) can be highlighted in and notes taken in them and these can br accessed even after the rent term. I'd go to amazon to get more info if your leaning that way. :)

The Amazon site says they are working on functionality to have the HDX print to wireless printers. I downloaded PC for Kindle but there's no button to print. Both the HD and the HDX have USB 2.0 (mini-USB) ports for charging and connecting to a PC.
The HDX is starting to lose ground... I'll download the Nook study and see how that works (You can download it on 2 devices.)
To those looking for save money on textbooks and save their back from the weight, there are online versions of most, if not all, of the textbooks. Some are sold in a bundle at the bookstore with the actual book as well as the e-book. I didn't have any e-books this semester but never really brought my books to class either.
Just want to congrats you all again. It's going to be a wild ride but you can do it!
Right now, I'm liking a couple Asus products and the Sony Vaio Flip (rather pricey).
The university bookstore is in cahoots with Barnes and Nobles and sell Nook Study copies of textbooks.
I downloaded Nook Study (NS) and it looks pretty good. The coolest, handiest feature is the ability to load multiple books and the ability to open two books in one screen for side by side reading or comparison. You can also import MS Word documents and print them from within NS. So far, NS tops Kindle for PC.
The only reason I wouldn't consider buying the Nook tablet is because I prefer a 10-13" screen. If they sold those, my tablet issue would be solved.
Wooo Hooo! :) I just got the go-ahead to start calling the Shady Grove students which I will begin today. It usually takes me a week to get through to everyone so be patient! And as of right now, not all statuses for accepted students have been changed so more of you will be getting some good news soon!
