Hello all. Who is applying to the schools listed in the title? Which is your 1st and last pick. I applied to all the schools and am strongly considering UMDNJ Fall 08. :)
I received a letter of acceptance for Summer 2008 (Acc. 2nd Deg. BSN/MSN) when in actuality the program already started, so instead I will be starting Fall 2008. From reading the previous posts it seems like 'disorganization' seems to be huge here and this worries me. For those of you who have graduated or are currently in the program.. is it tolerable? Also, do you suggest 180 West Market St for housing? If you could provide any suggestions regarding housing.. where to live..etc.. safety? And any other advice, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks!
I just finished my first semester at UMDNJ, it seems from the professors that they take the comments made by students to heart and all have made some changes to their teaching style/personalities/etc... A lot of the comments made seem to be more on the administrative side of UMDNJ and not so much on the professors. I did learn A LOT my first semester, so I know they are doing something right :loveya:The administrative side of the school can be a nightmare, but if you keep on it, you won't have any problems.
Also, you can waive certain classes and not have to take or pay for them. For example, I got Research waived for the 2nd semester and it saved me $996 and a ton of time. For the first semester, you have to send in the waiver early (if you had a community health course in your first undergrad, send the waiver in - you may not have to take it). Also, you can test out of the computer class.
I also heard from the Dean that they are planning on making some curriculum changes soon (I don't know if this will affect incoming Fall students).
There is no doubt that this is challenging, but it will be worth it.
Hope this helps anyone with their decision,

So I have a friend who told me UMDNJ's ABSN program is a 'train-wreck' in terms of its administration. I can see what he was talking about by what happened to me today.
I called the admissions lady at UMDNJ New Brunswick school and she told me that the ABSN program starts only in May (the 15 month one-for both the Newark and NB campuses). But, the one that starts in September is done at minimum of 2 years full time student. Thus, this program that starts in September is NOT an accelerated program. Is this right?
She also told me that if I want to apply for May 2009 that the priority applic. deadline is January 15, 2009. I looked at UMDNJ's website and saw that their application deadlines listed nothing that said Jan 15. See below:
The School of Nursing accepts applications for admission on a rolling basis; however, to expedite processing, we are requesting return of your application packet on the following dates:
And, the website listed nothing of when each program starts.
Also, I tried applying online, and it shows a list of programs to choose from, and none of them list the ABSN program. All of them are certificates, or masters, or PhD programs.
Help me please! I have 10 days left if I choose to apply for September 2009.
So sorry to hear about your problems I am sure that classes begin in Sept, Jan and May for the ABSN. I have not heard of a 2yr program at Newark maybe at NB. But my advice is if you are close to Newark campus to go in person to the 11th floor of SON and get it from the source.
Unfortunately I have no info about NB..sorry
Good Luck

I applied to all the programs you stated and was accepted by all. I was accepted to UMD early (I applied for Fall and was accepted for Summer 08). I went in Summer and glad I did. We have a small clinical group, so we get more attention from the professors.
When speaking w/ other nurses, which were all previous students at some point, all said that the nursing programs are all disorganized, crazy and all of them change their minds about what is acceptable/not acceptable (coming from SHU, Pace, Columbia, NYU, and the community colleges) If you are a professional coming from another field, you will know that adaptability is a way of life, anywhere...so don't let that disorganization discourage you.
I am glad I am going to UMD, I am proud when I say where I go (just be ready to spend a little more $$ than you think for books). And hold on tight, this really is the ride of a lifetime...but worth it 100%. And :typing:typingDon't get too wrapped up in the other student's lives, it can distract you. Keep you head on and go for it...
Best of luck to you in the future...any more questions, just write. I'd be happy to answer them as best I can.
