UMB Spring 2012

Published

Hello! I am in the process of applying for the spring 2012 semester at the Baltimore campus!! I didn't see any threads out there yet for people who are applying so I figured I'd start one :) Feel free to share gpa, TEAS scores, etc and any updates on admission!! GOOD luck to everyone!

I took the TEAS V back in June and the Study Manual that ATI put out is great. The test is pretty difficult but doable if you have ample time to review.

The only thing I have left is the statement of goals anybody know exactly what they are looking for?

My intention was to go for my ADN at AACC- but they just recently changed their admissions process, making it noncompetitive (thus losing any amount of prestige a community college may have carried). I decided to look in to other options and now I have my heart set on UMB Spring 2012. I still need to take Stat, Nutrition, Chem (I took it 10.5 years ago at U of Delaware, it has to be taken within the last 10 years for it to count...boooo), and one more humanities course (most of the classes I took at UD were social sciences- I was a Criminal Justice major), all of which I have signed up for for Fall 2011.

My concern is that my grades at UD weren't all that great. Does UMB only take in to consideration your grades for the prereqs? If that's the case, then I won't panic so much (10+ years ago I was goofing off at UD and didn't do too well in classes, but the last 3 semesters at AACC I've worked my butt off and kept a 4.0).

I take TEAS V on Wednesday, and I haven't had a chance to study for it at all (I just finished an accelerated 6 week A&P 2 course and my life revolved around that class and the other 3 summer classes I was taking), so I hope it's not too difficult.

Well, good luck to everyone applying. I'm hoping for a conditional acceptance!

I was accepted into UMB for Spring 2011, but deferred until Fall 2011 so I can answer your question with respect to the statement of personal goals...well, at least this is what worked for me. What you need to convey when writing your statement is your passion for being a nurse. What circumstances/events that transpired thus far in your life made you want to become a nurse? Make it personal. Don't parrot what you think they want to hear. Be original, honest and most of all sincere in articulating your thoughts.

Have someone review your essay for spelling and grammar. Don't leave writing your essay until the last minute either, as you will probably have to write 2-3 drafts in order to arrive at the final product.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for the advise I am in the process of writing it now and wanted to see if I was at least on the right track.:)

just submitted my application today :) and the waiting begins..

Good luck! I'm finishing up my resume tomorrow and that's my last document to submit!:yeah:

Hi everyone!

I recently finished submitting all my application materials as well. I took the TEAS 4.0 on 8/26 (talk about last minute... lol.) I'm already antsy about hearing back! Waiting is going to be so difficult. Does anyone know when UMB starts sending out letters?

I just sent the last document for my application. My last letter of recommendation should have made it there yesterday- but it's still not listed on the checklist as received. My professor said she dropped it off personally, so I'm sure it's in the office- just needs to be put in the system.

.......now the waiting begins!

I was browsing through last year's Spring 2011 class hopefuls and they didn't hear until mid-Novmember. But the school was also going through accreditation, so that delayed their normal processes a bit. From what I understood, Spring hopefuls should be hearing back mid-late October...

Best of luck to everyone! It's a bit of a long shot for me- I don't have any health care experience and my grades from University of Delaware from 10 years ago aren't good at all... but my current scores are pretty solid and I fared pretty well on my TEAS V. So, here goes nothin........

In addition to what I just said about the mid-late October notifications, you can check the status of your application online instead of waiting for a letter. I also believe that they make phone calls to all accepted applicants. So if you have an unknown Maryland number on your cell phone mid-late October, be sure to answer!

I'm excited! :)

where do you go to view your application status online?

This is the link from the UMB Apply Now page under the Overview tab and in the Tips section.

Then under "Processed Applications", click the term you applied for (Will probably say Spring 2012). That will take you to your application summary. There's a line that says "Application Status"- and I believe once they make a decision on your application, the status will change. Reading over the thread from last year, when it changed to "Accepted- Institution", that's how the students knew they were accepted last year.
