UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

Filling out the paperwork will atleast keep your mind off of it! I have been trying to meditate and exercise to keep my mind from racing. I have a good feeling that we will hear before the 13th

My #2 school has already registered me for spring classes, requested my clinical preference wishlist, and given me a school e-mail account, wiki access, etc. I'm going to feel genuinely bad if/when I create a last-minute vacancy for them since I'm still holding out hope for UMB. I suppose the other schools are used to this but I can't help but wonder if they resent their nursing colleagues at UMB for having a selection process/timeline that is so different from the rest of the nursing schools in the area. I also wonder if this is a sign of how we will continue be treated if/when we're a student. Given how crazy all of the doctor's offices are right now with the H1N1 hysteria, I'm wondering how tough it is going to be to get our physicals done with so little time to spare. Have we missed the boat when it comes to financial aid/scholarships? Trying to stay positive.....

Well, I can help with one worry, at least. UMB does not require a physical, just a set of immunizations. You can find and download the form at http://www.umaryland.edu/health/medform.pdf. It says you will need back to back (2 weeks apart) PPD skin tests and they are not kidding. I would imagine that all nursing schools require the same set of immunizations because the requirements are actually set by the hospitals where you will be doing clinicals. You will also need a current CPR card and we only accept American Red Cross or American Heart Association, Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer - not the Basic Life Saving.

UMB has a Financial Aid Office 410 706-7347, and check out MHEC - the Maryland Higher Education Commission website for scholarships, grants and loans - it has more than any other site I know of. Shady Grove students can check out shadygrove.umd.edu for scholarships specifically for them.

Hope this helps.

Grey Lady Rocks!! As always, you're so very helpful. On the immunization form, I don't see anything about an influenza vaccination (seasonal or H1N1). Do you know if either are required?

We have been using the same form for ages. You won't need a flu shot until you are ready to go to clinicals - later in your first semester - and even then, not all clinical sites require them. Washington Hospital Center does require the seasonal one, but right now they are the only one. If you get one, keep the documentation you get in case your clinical site needs it. They don't always give us much notice when they decide to add a new requirement.

DRUM ROLL please!!!!!! for the FUTURE NURSES!!!!.....

cant wait to hear the good news guyz!!!...good luck!!!.....*praying*

I am confident that everyone on this post is going to get in, and if not ....achieve our goals... in one way or another. Participation in this forum is indicative of our drive and passion. I wish everyone the best of luck!!!

Good Luck everybody!! Our moment draws nears!!!

Best wishes to ALL!!!!

this wait is killin' me! I hope UMB isn't like this if I get in... so here we go  less than 48 hrs and we should know something!!!! :lol_hitti

This is just crazy! I am actually starting to get upset. They should not keep up on pins and needles like this. They should stop apologizing and just sent out the decisions.

Nothing, no updates online, the wait yet again, continues. my other school is looking better and more on top of it. I feel pretty put out by UMB
