UMB Spring 2010 Applicants (BSN or CNL)

Published

After following the Fall '09 thread with great interest, I thought it might be time to start a new thread for the Spring '10 applicants since we're inching closer to the Sep 1 deadline. I have a technical question for those who have applied before. I submitted my CNL application online this morning and paid the $50 and now it seems like my application has slipped into a vortex that I don't have access to. When I log onto SURFS to check my status, the only option that it gives me is to submit a new application. Is there somewhere else on the website that I should be looking to confirm that my application has been submitted and is pending review or awaiting additional information (transcripts, recommendations, etc)? Perhaps there is a delay between when the application is submitted and when the status is visible?

Best of luck to all the other applicants...now the agonizing waiting game begins! Looking forward to giving each other support and encouragement on this thread.

summertimeflowers, I completely agree. My other school let me know almost a month ago. I've been holding off on their paperwork because of UMD. This is just crazy. Is this a sign of things to come. The email sent yesterday said "shortly" what does that mean? A week, tomorrow, later today? I mean this just blows my mind!

I posted this on another thread:

It is totally understandable to see the delay as a lack of organization. Believe me, UMB knows that we are losing promising candidates because of it - it is our nightmare, too. In addition to the applications for CNL and BSN programs, the Office of Admissions is processing applications for the 12 masters' specialties. Altogether, there are thousands of applicants. It is a huge job.

Well maybe next applicaiton season, they should consider moving up the deadline. I'm sure they know who didn't make it. They should at least let us know that.

what does the apology email 'shortly' mean? Today or next week? what was the point of that email?

It means that they totally understand everyone's frustrations and it is an attempt to reach out to you and encourage you to hang on. I just heard that the plan is to try to telephone all the admitted applicants on the day they are able to mail your letters. I volunteered to help.

When is that "day" this week? Next Week? Thanks Grey Lady for filling us in.

Hi Grey Lady---as always, I'm impressed with your commitment to us---please know that it's really appreciated!! I hope that UMB is putting a little something extra in your paycheck for your willingness to do damage control on this message board! :) I'll confess that I felt like last night's e-mail was too little too late. Since this isn't the first time that UMB has accepted spring applicants, it's hard to comprehend why, for a nationally-ranked nursing school, the process isn't more structured and/or why there isn't continuity from previous years. Thanks for standing by our side---we'll continue to wait in anxious anticipation.

Hi Grey Lady - Yes, I agree thank you for keeping us informed. We know this is not a reflection on you, but I have to admit, this wait is obscene. I don't buy it that there are "so many more applications this go round". Something else is happening behind closed doors and I hope that UMB comes clean with us.

Sadly, I went from total excitement to anticipation to disbelief and now to total disgust. UMB can not expect to maintain #7 in the nation if this is indicative of things to come.

UMB: I won't be waiting by the phone to ring - leave a message on my voice mail. I'll get back to you about MY decision before January 25th.

you wouldn't be sticking it to UMB, you would just be freaking out the waitlisters.... your intended target wouldn't hit...

So if anyone feels like they are going to drag out UMB on their decision... it'll just hit a fellow applicant that got a B+ in a class instead of an A and got waitlisted.... just a thought :twocents:

No - sorry to say that you are not correct. UMB DOES NOT - I repeat - DOES NOT WAITLIST. I did my homework.

grey lady: again thank you, you should get a raise.

guys, i dont think it does any good to get all up in arms about what we are or are not being told about the applications and why the decisions are taking so long.

do i think that email was too little, to late? yes, definitely

do i think that this wait time is a little ridiculous? yes, definitely.

do i think we have any control over the situation? no, not at all.

i know i am gonna get lit into for this, but there is nothing you can do about it. nothing, but breathe and just wait. honestly, at this point, if your other school has signed you up for classes and financial aid and stuff like that, what does a couple of more days matter? you are still signed up and going to nursing school. isn't that the goal?

we are going to find out when we are going to find out and there is nothing we can do to change that, so getting mad on a wall post (although cathartic) really isnt getting us anywhere but angrier about the entire situation.

RosesArePink - one more thought here - I would never "stick it" to my fellow classmates. But, think about all those that have been accepted at other schools that are anxiously waiting UMB's decision before they commit. What about all the candidates at those other schools that are waitlisted?

This extended wait has implications beyond UMB. Not that anyone really cares........
