UMass Worcester GEP

Anyone else applying this cycle? I am applying for GEP to DNP (FNP track)

Or, I would love to hear from people in the GEP program/graduated from the GEP program about their experiences!

Thanks all! I am feeling really anxious as my interview was pushed back nearly 3 weeks (was supposed to be 28th of Jan) due to the storm, and I'm worried the FNP program will fill up before I even have my interview (end of next week) which I was supposed to have a while ago! Agh:(

Don't sweat it Lumen! My interview got pushed back twice and I'm sure if more snow had hit by then, it would have been even later! I'm sure they factor these sorts of things and may delay giving people a decision until they interview certain candidates, especially if they like the like the other candidate's application more prior to the interview.

Hello all! I've been lurking on and off of this site for information on the UMass GEP to DNP program. As their official site has not seen an update in the past several years, I'd like to give some more reliable info by posting here. I just had my interview today for the FNP program today, and received a phone call after their committee meeting that I was accepted into the program. I learned during my interview that the DNP program is 4.5 years long; consisting of your pre-licensure year and then three and a half years of part time RN work and part time class. I was asked several basic questions about my background, along with a few clinical scenarios. If they like you during the interview, you will definitely know. Don't lose hope yet, it's still early in the cycle and I am certain they will have more interviews being held.

In for acute! So unbelievably pumped! At least one member of my family has gotten into UMass Med now!

Congrats on the acceptances!

Congrats all!! Keep your fingers crossed for me that FNP doesn't fill up before next Thursday haha. Can I ask, what clinical scenarios were you given in the interview? That makes me sort of nervous.

Hi SWA, personal question for.you--since youre from the Chicago area, did you apply to Rush's program? Just curious on your input on why or why you didnt and why you decided to travel to UMass?

Hi lumen4,

They will ask 2-3 of scenario-type questions. Some were typical interview questions like, "give an example where you demonstrated so-and-so", or "tell me about a time where you encountered x, y, or z, what did you do in response?". The clinical scenarios put you into the shoes of a nurse. Do not worry too much; as long as your answer makes sense and you consider the needs of yourself, of other team members, and the patient, you'll do great. Hope that helps, but feel free to message me if you have any other questions!

SWA, one more question for you. Were you able to cover tuition entirely with federal loans or did you have to get private loans too? Now that I'm in it's hitting me that I need to pay for all this!

Has anyone made a facebook group for accepted/admitted students??

Hi All,

I've been lurking as well. Don't lose hope. They were still interviewing as of last week. I think the admissions committee meets every other week to review on a rolling basis. Fingers crossed I'll get in to the FNP/DNP. I feel good based on interview feedback but really won't rest easy until I hear for sure. I'm hoping they have no problem calling me up rather than waiting for the whole admissions package to be mailed out. It sounds like those of you who got in found out pretty quickly...?

I think a Facebook group would be great for students who are admitted and have accepted.

Hey humtechnurse, the committee meets on Thursdays, but I'm not sure if it's every week or every other, I've read and heard both. They did call me to let me know I was accepted the Thursday after my interview and my fiancée just sent me a message letting me know my admissions packet was delivered today.

I can create a facebook group a little later tonight after my hockey game if folks are interested in one.
