UMass Worcester GEP 2011

Specializes in Acute/Critical Care.

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to start a new thread for anyone who applied to the UMass Worcester GEP program for Fall 2011 entry!

Specializes in Acute/Critical Care.

Has anyone been interviewed yet? When are they sending out their acceptance letters?

Hi JTN333,

I also applied to the GEP program for this fall. I have not received a call yet about interviews, and am starting to get worried. Have you talked to anyone in admissions recently?

Hi piti bear :)

Yes, I was asked to be interviewed. What specialty track did you apply for?

Hi all,

I'm pretty sure both interviews and admissions are rolling. The admissions committee meets every two weeks on Thursdays, and I've heard that admissions decisions post-interview can come almost immediately afterward (i.e. a day or two after the interview) or after the next meeting (presumably two weeks later). I'm sure there are other ways it can happen too, but those are the ones I've heard of!

What I was told at the info session I attended was that, for Fall 2010 class, they had approximately 155 applicants, of which they interviewed approx. 75. In terms of class size, there are 32 spots total: 12 FNP, 10 Acute, & 10 Adult. 4 of those 12 for FNP will be Doctor of Nursing Practice accelerated track students this year. The DNP program is in its inaugural year, and, as of Feb 3rd, they were still accepting applicants for it.

I applied for the FNP DNP program, and interviewed on the 3rd. Am supposed to hear back by this Friday or so. Keeping my fingers crossed!

Any other stories or tidbits people want to post...?

Best of luck,

Has anyone been accepted into the GEP Acute track for Fall 2011?

Hi everyone,

I will begin the UMass GEP program starting Fall 2011 in the FNP specialty track!

I applied early, had my interview and recieved my acceptance notification back in December.

citymoose, what is the the accelerated FNP-DNP track? I wasn't aware of the option for GEP students? How did you find out about this option and how long will it take to complete?

Best of luck to everyone!

Hi all,

I also posted on the MA region thread, but I figured it couldn't hurt to also post here. I also interviewed for the UMass program and have sort of given up hope on admissions. Do any of you know if we'll be contacted in the case we don't get in? It would be great to have an answer, either way.

I hope you are all doing well and hanging in there through these nail biting days:uhoh3:. Bleh! I had myself prepared for the worst and hoping for the best, but I guess rejection never feels good! Will you guys please, please, please post something when you hear your admissions status? Good luck:up:

Hey Everyone,

I was called for an interview on a Monday, interviewed Thursday of that week, and was accepted into the GEP program Adult/Gero track the following Friday. It was a very fast process! When scheduling my interview, they had dates available in March, so I'm sure they are still calling for interviews.

Best of luck to everyone, hope to see you in the Fall (well August)!!

Hi NC585,

Sorry for the delay, I thought I would get an email when people responded on this thread!

I think they just approved the accelerated DNP program sometime in January. When I called to check on my application, they mentioned it. There was a supplemental form to fill out, two more essays, and an fourth recommendation. The program is similar to the FNP Master's, except with a fourth year, and some "doctoral level" courses during the master's years. If it makes you feel better, I found out earlier this week I didn't get in :) Still have hope for the Master's!

Good luck to all!

Hi everyone - good luck to those still waiting for a decision!

I applied in January just received a phone call today to interview this Thursday for the GEP Adult Primary Care specialty. The interesting thing is, I had originally applied to the Family speciality, and the woman I spoke to said all of those spots were filled, but if I liked, I could be considered for Adult Primary Care. Of course, I said yes (the reason I applied to Family in the first place was my interest in Primary Care). Strange that she mentioned this actually because the only specialty options on the application were Adult Gerontology/Acute, Adult Gerontology Primary Care, Nurse Educator, and Family. She did mention that the Adult Primary Care track is pretty much the same as Family except rather than serving birth and forward it serves adolescents and forward.

For those who've already been accepted for this Fall - congrats! Can you please share what were your interviews like? Who did you interview with and what questions were you asked? Anyone accepted to the Adult Primary Care specialty so far?

Thanks! :)

theserenitynow congrats on the interview! :D You must be very excited! My interview was very conversational. She was not trying to "grill" me, but rather making an honest effort to get to know me, and why I have chosen to purse a career as an advanced practice nurse. As strange as it sounds I don't really remember specific questions from my interview as it was back in the beginning of February. But don't be nervous, everyone there is extremely nice!

I was accepted to the Adult Gerontology Primary Care track. It is my understanding that they changed things around this year so that both the Adult Primary Care and Acute Care track include Gerontology (Gerontology is no longer considered a "specialty" or "dual track" option, but rather required) In other words your either in the Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP track or the Acute Gerontology Care NP track (Family and Nurse Educator are still the same). I maybe wrong, but this is how it was described to me at my interview. It may be a good question to bring up in the interview for further clarification- and let me know if your told differently!

Good luck with your interview! Hope this information was some what useful!
