UMass 2nd degree BSN program

Published

Hi,

Has anyone else applied ot UMass Amherst 2nd degree BSN or completed the program? I recently applied & am waiting to hear if I am accepted. Just looking for support & feedback on the program.

Thank you! I just checked it out & saw that there are only 2br. I am hesitant to live with someone I don't know b/c I've had some bad experiences. It seems most realtors are only open M-F 9-5 & I live in Boston so it is hard to get there. Any other suggestions? I've checked some places on the internet & found some through Kamins real estate. Do you know anything about them? Sorry to bombard you with questions, I just moved to Boston last year & don't know anything about the area.

i just did a quick search on craigslist for the amherst area and it looks like there are many apartments available. i couldn't think of any complexes off the top of my head but i found some on this website : http://www.everyaptmapped.com/apartments/amherst,massachusetts,ma/rent-1.html

i think there is also a complex called cliffside that is on 116 in sunderland, which isn't too far from campus either. i hope that helps! since the area is surrounded by colleges i think there will be undergrads scattered everywhere but as long as you stay away from frat row and pufton village i dont think you'll have to worry too much about partying students.

thank you again for all of your help! See you at orientation, this is happening so quick!

I just registered for classes, did so through the www.umassulearn.net website. The classes we need to sign up for are listed on the back of the the white sheets that were included in the acceptance letter. Also, the financial aid office requires us to print and sign a few forms prior to the award being granted. These forms can be found through the "to-do's" section on our spire account. Hope everyone is doing well and had a happy Thanksgiving!

Look forward to meeting everyone.

Tim

i just signed up for classes as well, now my current mission is looking for scrubs and a stethescope... i can't wait to meet everyone at orientation-its so soon!

Hey guys,

My name is Kristin and I am in the 2nd bach program at amherst right now. sounds like you have lots of questions and i know orientation is next week- but just wanted to throw my name out there if you needed answer sooner than later. I used this website last year when i was applying to school and I provided me a lot of support. wanna pay it forward.

I am 33. Have a science background. I lived just off-campus first semester which was super convenient but annoying cause we had to get up at 5am and the students all around me were just going to bed then. I live in deerfield right now- about 15 minutes drive from campus. I bought this paper card at the parking office for $ 7.50- some "occasional parking" situation. you can park up to 20 times or so on one card- way cheaper than getting a sticker. i payed 535/month to live walking distance to campus and 450 now to live quietly :) I would recommend NOT living with someone you dont love or with an non-nursing person/early morning person. The hours are crazy and sometimes you need to be in bed at 8PM to get up at 4AM to get to clinical. made it really tough for me first semester.

i think there are 65 people in your class. my class had a big range of ages- 20 to 65 maybe. 10 or so people with kids. majority from around western ma surprisingly. I am from boston and find the area beautiful and fun and way cheaper!

i am happy to answer any questions!

congrats to all those that got in and good luck to all those still trying. There are about 5 to 10 people in my class that got in last minute from the wait list, so dont give up hope. i think 1 even got in the week before the program started!

Sailrmar- I would love to know more about the Umass Worcester GEP. I'm not quite sure how to send you a private message here, but if you could initiate the process I would be so grateful! I am deciding between a direct entry master's and accelerated 2nd bachelor's degree. It's my goal to pursue a MSN but I'm not sure whether to dive right into it or go for the BSN first and then continue on my way. Thanks!

Hi! I read your message on the forum and I was wondering if you can help me. UMass Worcester is my top choice! I plan to apply to the GEP program (Acute NP) for Fall 2011 admissions and I feel that my GPA is not high enough. Currently, I am doing a double degree - a B.S in Biology and a B.S in Psychology with an overall GPA 3.0. My pre req's gpa is 3.75.

I have worked for Umass Memorial hospital for quite a while now and have developed an extensive background in a clinical setting- I hope this helps. Also, this summer i enrolled in a Acute CNA course at the american red cross. I am also volunteering in a nursing home.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your undergraduate degree in? Also, what was your overall GPA, GPA in your pre req's and GRE scores?

Thanks for all your help!
