Hi,
Has anyone else applied ot UMass Amherst 2nd degree BSN or completed the program? I recently applied & am waiting to hear if I am accepted. Just looking for support & feedback on the program.
Does everyone already live in the Amherst area? Does anyone have any suggestions for resources to find available rentals? I have been viewing craigslist, just wondering if there are any other places that I may want to look. Also any suggestions on what town to live in/not live in. How far out should the maximum search area be?
thanks
I live within 20 minutes to amherst, so if you have any questions about the area just let me know! as far as surrounding towns go, probably the easiest commutes for you if you are not in amherst itself would be hadley or northampton. I live in the montague/greenfield area.
I don't even know where to begin in terms of getting materials and everything ready for the program, are you waiting to get your scrubs, stethescopes, etc. until after the orientation? Also I called to ask a question last week and I believe they mentioned they were probably going to have the orientation on the 16th as an fyi! They are waiting to see what is easiest for everyone to attend.
Thank you so much & yes, I have some questions about the area. I found a few complexes in Amherst but am concerned about living close to party animals. I am 35 y/o and not really into that scene anymore nor can I focus on studying if it is too loud (gosh, I am turning into one of "those people.") The other quesiton is about possible work. I hoping to find some per diem work or even something part time-if possible to help with the cost. Any suggestions on home care agencies or hospitals in the area- currently I am employed as a licensed social worker?
I am waiting to hear about financial aid as well, -- I filled out the fafsa form when I applied, but I guess we wont hear anything about aid until we are officially in the system. I am also looking at places to move and getting the paper work together and sent out. I completed my CPR/AED for a professional rescuer, filled out the CORI and Health Forms and made the copies of my ID. I think I am going to wait to purchase scrubs and stethoscope till after orientation.
When are we suppose to sign up for classes? I am sure they will probably discuss this at orientation, just wondering if anyone has heard anything about that.
You are ahead of me. I completed the CORI and still need to sign up for CPR. My sister is a nurse & was so excited about me getting accepted that she purchased a stethoscope for me. I am going up there on Monday to check out different apartments & will let you know what I find. I want to live close to campus so I don't have to worry about parking. Do you know how much tuition is? Initially I thought it was whatever the rate is for undergrad classes, but was told it was different. I can't seem to find out much on the website. Thanks so much for the help. I am sure we will meet at orientation. As for signing up for classes, I figured we will find this out at orientation. It seems all so fast now.
Where is it that you are looking for apartments? One place that might have a lot of partying students is pufton village, but even then it might not be so bad and the apartments are nice from what i've seen. Plus it is also the closest complex to UMass. I'm feeling so antsy about finding out about financial aid and registering for classes. Does anyone else feel like they didn't really give us too much information on either of those?
On the CPE website they have the cost of the program and its around $30,000 which is part of the reason why I want info in financial aid asap!!
Hi Kimburlee37,
Thanks so much for the info. I am heading up to Amherst on Monday to look at some apartments near campus. I don't want to deal with parking & want to live near a bus route or walking distance. I am meeting with Kamins real estate & will be viewing some of their properties. As for financial aid, I am still waiting and hope to hear something soon. I called the nursing school & was told tuition was $510 per credit. I think there is a total of 59 credits which means it close to $30,000. I am not sure if it is less with MA residency but certainly hope so! I was shocked to hear that it was so much since regular tuition is only $110 per credit. This is supposedly one of the less expensive programs if you can believe it. Thanks again & please let me know if you hear differently about tuition.
