UMass 2nd degree BSN program

Published

Hi,

Has anyone else applied ot UMass Amherst 2nd degree BSN or completed the program? I recently applied & am waiting to hear if I am accepted. Just looking for support & feedback on the program.

The price is a shock.

The UMass program is as expensive as some of the private schools- Villanova, Drexel. I have emailed the bursar to double check but I cannot find a reference to a tuition break for instate students. U Mass has been pouring money into the nursing school as evidenced by the recently completed a beautiful nursing building with a state of the art simulation lab. So, it does appear that it is worth the expense, just wish the cost had been easier to determine at the time of application.

According to this website the cost 08-09 was $30,090 plus the incidental expenses in the nursing handbook.

Estimated Fees for Second Bachelor's in Nursing Program (based on fees for academic year 2008-09): The cost of classes is $510 per credit (x 59 credits in the full program = $30,090). In addition there is a $45 per term non-refundable registration fee (x 5 terms = $225). Class and registration fees may change. For information on additional program costs, including health insurance, books and materials, please see the Undergraduate Student Handbook for the School of Nursing at www.umass.edu/nursing/student_i

Thank you for this information. They said that financial aid should be in contact with us shortly if we completed the fafsa application. I just received an email saying that we are now in the computer system, so this should trigger financial aid getting our aid packages together.

I wish there was an instate discount! But it looks like it is just one set price. I didn't get an email about being in the computer system yet... but I did just get one about a CPR class and the orientation being on the 16th.

I agree with you, I kinda wish orientation was even sooner -- that way we would know exactly what has to be done when. I feel like I may be getting ahead of myself sometimes, and then other times I feel like I am behind. I mean do we need to go there and get H1N1 flu shots? I figure that we can do that when the need really comes, but they have sent out like 3 emails with information regarding them -- but not sure if it really applies to us or the class of 2010. Same goes with class registration.

The email for the computer system was sent by the Office of Information Technologies (OIT) letting us know to activate our SPIRE account and email account. Though I am still getting all of my emails sent to my personal email still. I called financial aid today and she said we should be getting our packages shortly.

Has anyone registered for classes yet? When are we suppose to do these?

I didn't receive anything yet. My email address was put in the system incorrectly so I am just now getting all of the emails. I am a little frustrated that we found out so late & am getting overwhelmed by all this stuff we have to do. Have they forgotten that many of us still work full time & don't live in that area? Sorry to complain here, but I am just getting stressed by all of this stuff & how to pay for everything. I really thought this was less expensive when I applied.

I was stressed about the H1N1 since I just found out today & don't live near Amherst. I was told they are trying to offer it to us the day again in January. However, this afternoon I just learned that my employer is offering it (already got the flu vaccine thr/work) & you may want to see if the same is at your work place. It's at least one more thing to cross of our pre-registration to-do list.

Has anyone received their financial aid package yet?

Does anyone know if students only need to be on campus for 6 days in January 2010 for this course?

I haven't received anything yet, but did see what I was awarded in federal aid on my spire account. I have to explore private loans & was going to call the office to see what to do. As for the class, yes we are only there for 6 days 8-4.

did you receive the email a week or so ago that outline what we will be getting for loans and how much the program costs? It looks like we will only have to get additional aid for the last part of the program. That is, as long as you haven't already used up your alloted amount. I noticed that the first semesters worth was on Spire too, has anyone tried signing up for classes yet?

I haven't registered yet & was just going to wait until orientation. On a seperate note, I am moving up there from Boston & looking for a place to live. Can anyone suggest reasonable apartments in Amherst that aren't filled with only undergraduate students?

I lived at the Boulders Apt. Complex one summer in Amherst while i took summer classes. They have a lot of families. I liked the area. Bus route. Im not sure what a one bedroom will cost you but I had a two bedroom for about 950 i believe.
