UMASS GEP 2010
Sailrmar I have some questions... I am starting the program in August (acute-care track). Do you recall what month you heard from the financial aid office about student loans? In your experience did students who applied for the federal loans generally get the amount they requested? It's a strange feeling to be attending orientation in a week and not to know about finances yes. But I understand these things take time. Secondly, I was reading in last year's handbook about uniforms. Do navy scrub pants still apply? And do students vary their tops (short white lab coat, or tan top) or does everyone stick to the same style? (My local store is having a sale right now). Thirdly, realizing that holding a job is not recommended (or prohibited) the first year, the students that held a job anyway - what kind of jobs were they successful with? Do they have mostly babysitting or waitressing gigs? Thanks for your help! Can't wait to start...

Umass Worcester GEP!! Please reply!
To current 1st year students: Is lab scheduled on a Monday or Friday? I imagine having three days off every other week would be tremendously helpful... For students that moved to the Worcester area upon acceptance (which I plan to do), can you provide any insights into how you went about finding housing? Is there an online forum for students who are looking to share housing near the Umass campus? Craigslist? Or maybe just meeting one another at orientation? Thanks for your insights!

Briang30 thanks for your insights. I am interviewing on Tuesday and taking a tour of the lab afterward. I am very excited about the program and the university's plans for the coming years. Are interviews granted quite liberally or should I feel confident that my application seems to be received well? Thanks.

Thank you very much, that's very helpful. I have lots of other questions if you have time to address them: Which specialty program are you in? How are you managing your schedule, and do you find it difficult to find a job as an RN in between year 2 and 3 after you sit for Boards without having a BSN? Are schedules consistent every semester or do they fluctuate greatly? Did you work during the first year of the program before you got your RN? Thank you thank you.

UMass 2nd degree BSN program
Sailrmar- I would love to know more about the Umass Worcester GEP. I'm not quite sure how to send you a private message here, but if you could initiate the process I would be so grateful! I am deciding between a direct entry master's and accelerated 2nd bachelor's degree. It's my goal to pursue a MSN but I'm not sure whether to dive right into it or go for the BSN first and then continue on my way. Thanks!

Umass Worcester GEP!! Please reply!
I have been asked to interview for the Umass Worcester GEP program. JessicaJessica, how did you interview end up going? Can you give me any insight into what I can expect? And was it your understanding that people who were asked to interview were generally accepted or were interviews given generously? I greatly appreciate any help, it has been a little while since I have interviewed.

2010 UMASS Boston Accelerated BSN
Yes, I applied. Had some trouble with a study abroad transcript, I'm keeping my fingers crossed! Where else did you all apply? Simmons?

MGH accelerated BSN 2010
What other schools has everyone applied to? Simmons, Umass Boston, Umass Medical? I totally agree with the frustration around different deadlines - for Curry College you have to apply in March only to wait 3/4 of a year!

I was not accepted to the program. Wishing all the best!

MGH accelerated BSN 2010
I like that - THINK GOOD THOUGHTS! Everything happens for a reason, and everything works out in the end. We're all going to "make it happen" one way or another. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much either, but as you can see I haven't had too much luck with that! :) Hang in there everyone.

MGH accelerated BSN 2010
I received an email today that letters would be sent out at the beginning of this week - so January 5 sounds just about right. Regarding financial aid, I had sent in a form with my application. I haven't received an email about options. Good luck everyone!

MGH accelerated BSN 2010
I'm thinking of attending the information session on January 12th just to refresh some of the information should I be so lucky as to have a decision to make... I went to one last year and it was pretty informative. Has anyone recently trying to access the online Umass Boston application? Once you fill out the first few fields and go to 'Proceed' it says the application deadline has passed... but the deadline is February 1st. I plan to print it out and do it manually. The Umass Boston website states in their Fact Sheet for the accelerated program that the cost for the 2009 academic year for a MA resident the cost was $25,000. That's a lot less than the MGH program!
