Umass Boston Acceptance

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Published

Hello,

I am a 25 year old female with a bachelor's in Finance. For the past two years I have been working as a Medical Assistant, and have been working on completing my nursing pre-requisites. I finished them at Bunker Hill with a 3.7 gpa. My undergraduate gpa is 3.1. Yesterday I sent in my application to UMB's Accelerated Nursing Program. I think my essay was decent and my recommendations pretty good.

I was wondering if anyone who has applied had any advice/comments about UMB's program.

-When did you hear back for an interview?

-Did people who got an interview ... generally get into the program?

-When did the program start? It says summer but it also mentioned something about May?

-Those of you who were accepted .. how is the program going?

Any comments would be very helpful. Thank you .. I know people are busy.

Hey owenc and NeNe25

I called this morning and much to my relief, I am accepted into the Accelerated version. We'll be getting email notifications next week which will provide specific information about the accelerated program.

I know that classes begin June 1st and there is a mandatory orientation for us on May 18th.

I'm excited to meet the both of you!!!

p.s. owenc, did you just complete your FAFSA application last night? I thought that was due March 1st for this year.

Hi,

I think it's due June 30th ...

The 2010-2011 School Year (July 1st, 2010 - June 30th, 2011):

FAFSA on the Web applications must be submitted by midnight Central Daylight time, June 30, 2011.

Alright, as long as you're all set. I just remember getting an email from UMASS Boston saying that to be covered for the summer '10 portion of this program, FAFSA applications have to be submitted by March 1st, 2010.

Loans suck.

This is a great link for student loans MedCAP Alternative Loan for Health Professionals

Did you guys receive a "Transfer Credit Evaluation" in the mail? What is this? Is this just confirming that we completed the pre-requisites? I'm confused because it says "63 credits have been accepted" and then it says "At least one requirement hasn't been satisfied" - but it doesn't specify what. I'm confused - I'm sure it's just something that is automatically generated and sent but I am still curious.

Anyway FM yes you are right I am too late for the FASFA for the SUMMER semester. Unfortunately I will need to pay for the summer tuition through only private loans. I wish I had received that e-mail that you got telling you to fill it out before March but unfortunately I did not. Hopefully my private loan source will give me all i need for the summer - I think it's $5k plus the cost of living. UGGGH!

Are any of you still going to the April 10th orientation? I think I may still go because I am not familiar with the campus and maybe I can speak with someone in Financial Aid BEFORE the May 18th orientation (seems so far away!).

Lastly, do you guys have cars? I wonder if it is necessary to have a car for the clinicals or if people have made it by with public transportation. Maybe I should ask some of the graduates.

Anyway hope you guys are enjoying your weekend!

Hi Owenc,

I received the same exact letter on Fri. I called and the woman I spoke w/said she thinks it was automatically generated but as accelerated nursing students we shouldn't get this. Anyways, they're looking into it and will follow up w/an email. I'll let you know what they say. I hope there are no more mix ups like this...it concerns me.

That stinks that you can't get FA for summer. U might be late but maybe you can still get something. I plan on calling the FA office next week to get things rolling. Have you gotten all your shots out the way? I have to make an appt. Also do you know if we have to have taken a CPR class prior to the program? I've seen a couple of other postings I think it was for MGH and they have to take CPR classes prior to the start of the program.

I am going to the orientation on April 10th. I never been to the campus before besides the interview. I do have a car but I'm hoping the clinicals are accessible by public transportation.

Hi NeNe,

I e-mailed to ask her about the cpr courses. She sent me a schedule of cpr courses provided at Carney Hospital that she said they accept at UMB. I am taking one on Saturday, May 8th if you are interested. I wanted to get it out of the way before we started school.

I'm glad you called to ask about that random letter. I was worried about it.

I am lucky since I work at a dr's office I will just have one of the nurses I work for help me with all the immunizations. I want to get them out of the way so I'll probably look into that today.

Keep in touch!

Hey Owenc,

Thanks for getting back to me. I was looking into CPR World in Canton near my job but I'll take a look at Carney too. Did she specify which CPR class we needed? I'm assuming just BLS but there's also ACLS, PALS ect.

Hey owenc,

I don't have a car either. I had spoken with a coordinator of the program awhile back who explained that you don't NEED to have a car. They do their best to match people with rotations that best fit with their situation.

Well I have a car and I'm sure others do too. Depending on our schedule I'm sure we can always carpool.

Hi Owen- I signed up for the May 8th CPR class...see you then!

FM2847-Did you sign up for the CPR class yet?
