Hi Everyone!
Was wondering if anyone applied for the ABSN spring 2017 cohort at UMass Boston. It would be great to hear from other people about your pre requisites and experience. Hope to hear from you!
Hi All!
I know this is an old post however, I need some insight on a situation.
The deadline this year's for apps was Dec 1st with all supplemental materials ( LOR, transcripts, etc...) due by 12/15.
I am currently waiting for one of my grades to post to my transcript =/ ( I have finished the class already)
Did any of you get accepted with an outstanding class at the time of applying? Or did you have all classes complete by the deadline?
Thank you in advance for your help!
hey ees2018, im not sure how much it will help ease your mind,
i got in with a 92.3% on my TEAS V and my gpa for first degree was 3.5 and mostly if not all A's in my pre-reqs from bunker hill and middlesex Community colleges
But im sure they take more into account than simply your scores. i had EMT experience and was working with disabled adults when i applied. i can also be quite a good writer when i put my mind to it. and the essay is probably considered aswell.
i didnt hear until early january, i submitted most of my materials in the last week of applications, i had taken my teas jsut 5 days before the close, i didnt think of nursing school until it was almost too late. my transcripts werent able to be sent until mid december because i was still in the last of the pre-reqs
as long as you got your materials in in time just put your mind at rest and focus on the holidays :) Best of luck, it was a great program
Thanks so much for your reply LP! My TEAS score wasn't as great as yours, I got a 78 and my undergrad GPA was around 3.1, but boosted to a 3.6 with my prerequisites that I took on portage. I also have experience working with people with disabilities like you did... basically all of my work experience is in special education or college disability services. I also am a pretty decent writer. I'm planning on really putting work into the essays to stand out... my academics are obviously pretty average. Luckily from the information session i went to it looks like their taking a more holistic approach to applications I.e. not just emphasizing on GPA/academics. I can't help but worry though!!! Crossing my fingers !! Happy holidays to you and thanks again for the reply!
I'm in a similar position! My scores aren't as great as many others on here. I have a 3.2 GPA, 88 on the TEAS, but a 3.9 prereq GPA. I have a year experience as a pharmacy technician and over a year as a CNA at a hospital in Boston and was nominated/won a couple of hospital-wide awards as a CNA. I missed the December 1st due to not being able to take the TEAs until a week after the deadline so I've applied to MGH instead but I would still be willing to apply to UMB!
Still debating whether I want to go to MGH (if accepted) or wait and apply to UMB (don't know how good my chances are of being accepted)...

I am currently a nutrition major in Umass Amherst. I am considering to apply for this nursing program. However, I have not completed all the prerequisites yet. I am still missing "Growth and Development through the Lifespan". and this course is only open to nursing major in Umass. I took nutrition 352 last semester. and it was about nutrition needs and effects of intakes during pregnancy, lactation, infancy....adulthood and aging. I emailed the nursing advisor. she said it does not cover the pre-req. Does anyone have recommendation of where I can take this course or any alternatives that counts toward this pre-req? I appreciate your help!
