UMass Boston - ABSN Spring 2021

Published

I did not see a thread for this cohort, so everyone interested in this absn program please comment!

I want to apply for the Spring 2021 cycle. Does anyone know what the total tuition including housing, books etc would look like? Can anyone who did attend this program share what their total costs came down to? Would be super beneficial!

Lcruz86- Anything you wish you knew before starting that we should prepare for? I am nervous about the fast pace and how orientations will go. Looked like there were 5 different orientation days. What do you think of the program so far?

Honestly I really like it! It has its flaws just like any other program, especially during a pandemic! Some of the professors PPT aren’t the best so you need to be resourceful to learn the material. We had a few schedule changes in the semester but overall things ran smooth. It usually takes me 30-40 hours a week to get everything done but some people are putting a lot more! I think we had 4 orientation days and they were all good! Make sure you really understand PrepU and HESI because its how we do all our assignments for the semester! They are harder than the actual exams so don’t freak out in the first few weeks! ?

Lcruz86- Thank you that's great! I am glad you like the program. Have they confirmed whether clinicals are scheduled for the end of each semester? I've gotten mixed responses on that. Also (last question sorry!) how frequently do you find yourself needing to physically visit the campus?

Congrats to the ones accepted! I am in the Fall 2020 cohort! Let me know if you have questions!

How has your clinical schedule been? Does it seem organized? I had heard that it changed from the 2 weeks after each semester (the way we learned it would be during the info session)...is this true? Are students placed in different hospitals/clinics for each shift or the same one?

Our clinicals had to be changed because hospitals were expecting a second wave of Covid. They were supposed to be at the end of the semester but started in October. It varies by group but mine are on Fridays all day. I absolutely love the experience and feel like I am learning a lot! We only have to go to school for open labs and competency test, I think it will be 8 times max by the end of the semester!

Yes it has changes due to Covid! It is organized, mine are on Fridays all day! It varies by group! We go to the same place for the entire duration of the semester but next semester will be a different site. You will go to 3 different sites total!

Does anyone have advice on how they will be handling tuition and/or living expenses? I got very little from FAFSA and personal loans all are at high percentages and some require steady income which I will be leaving my job to attend school...

Would anyone be interested in joining a facebook group for the Spring 2021 cohort? I personally don't know anyone else in this specific cohort, and I think it would be really nice to bounce questions off each other before January.
