Hello everyone! I noticed that there are currently no posts regarding the UMass Amherst ABSN program for the 2019 cycle so I figured I would start one. I am in the middle of completing my application and would like to connect with other applicants, as well as previously accepted students that might me able to give some advice about the program. I am currently worried about my lack of experience because I have only held volunteer positions, but the admission criteria doesn't mention experience as a requirement. Thanks!
Hey sure, so I have a degree in kinesiology from UMass in 2012. My GPA was not that great, it was just above 3.0. I think what really helped me was the prerequisites that I took after (about a year and a half ago). I took chem 2, orgo, psych across the lifespan and microbio and I got A's in all of them so that really helped boost my science gpa and I think it showed that I have focused more on school. I was an EMT but honestly it wasn't until after I applied so that didn't even factor into me getting accepted. I wrote a pretty good essay that I think showed how I've worked and adapted to various work environments with all kinds of people. I did construction for a while and worked in restaurants and I did well in all of them.
I think if you have good work on your resume that says a lot so that is a good thing.
I hope everything works out for you, good luck!
@mtc50 congrats!! That is great to hear though, I’m sure you are doing great. Do you like it so far? The only thing I’m scared about is I think I might have forgotten something in my essay that they wanted in it. But it was still a strong essay I wrote. Other than that, I feel like my letter of rec will be good, too.
I do like it so far, it's a little overwhelming just figuring out what to expect from each teacher and class because we are really only in our second week. The first semester has a lot of work but once we get into the swing of it I think it will be okay! It was expected though, it is an accelerated program after all.

Hi guys! Was wondering if you guys can share your backgrounds. I have a bachelor's in sociology, from the University of Florida, with a gpa of 3.35. I don't have much volunteer work, but I have good work on my resume. I went over the limit on my essay and i'm a little worried because i didn't realize till after I submitted it. If anyone who was accepted can tell me their backgrounds, I would really appreciate it! Congrats to you all! :)
