Umass amherst absn 2019

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! I noticed that there are currently no posts regarding the UMass Amherst ABSN program for the 2019 cycle so I figured I would start one. I am in the middle of completing my application and would like to connect with other applicants, as well as previously accepted students that might me able to give some advice about the program. I am currently worried about my lack of experience because I have only held volunteer positions, but the admission criteria doesn't mention experience as a requirement. Thanks!

Hi Blmf,

They require those invited into the program to pay their $500 deposit by March 11th.

Hi All,

Congratulations to those that received their offer letters. For those that are waiting to hear, keep your head up! Only a few more weeks before you should know if you made it off the waitlist. I just submitted my deposit last evening and am excited to meet the cohort at the end of March.

I wanted to share some encouragement regarding grades for those that are still waiting to hear. My undergraduate degree in Athletic Training was a 2.89 with some poor grades. I retook a few classes and completed all outstanding prerequisites at MGH IHP with a 3.8 pre-req GPA. (Despite the cost, I highly recommend their online format for online prerequisites). I believe UMass takes the better of the two grades if retaking a course (huge help for my undergrad GPA).

My clinical background is in secondary school, collegiate, and professional athletic training (5yrs), EMT work (3yrs), and as a student practical nurse (currently enrolled in a program finishing in June).

I will be commuting from the Sturbridge Area. If anyone in the area would like to carpool to class feel free to introduce yourself at the meet and greet at the end of the month.

I look forward to meeting you all and learning alongside you come August.

Best,

Tim

Hi there,

I was recently accepted into the program as well. Does anyone know someone that has completed the program in the past few years. I am wondering if anyone works part-time while in the program. I have seen other hybrid programs where a few classes are online. It seems like these will all be held on springfield campus. I live in Worcester and read posts from years ago that people have their residencies in location all over Western Mass and some in central. I also applied to UMASS Boston and am on the waitlist. Their program is 15 months and a hybrid of online and in person. I do like the fact that they start in early summer and finish in early fall 2020. I think commuting to Springfield from Worcester would be easier than to Boston. I will put my deposit down for Amherst and considering that Boston has half the seats, I am not holding my breath that I will make it off of waitlist. Looking forward to meeting others at the meet and greet at the end of March.

Thanks!

Kim

Hey! I am also from the Worcester area. ?I talked to a friend who went through the program recently and she said that there are definitely some commuters, some coming from as far as NH. I haven’t decided myself on whether I would like to commute... a lot of people I have spoken to have said no way due to the intensity of an accelerated program. Fortunately we still have a few months to figure everything out. Congrats on your acceptance!

Hey guys! A facebook group has been created. It's called UMass Amherst ABSN 2019-2020!

Congrats to you too. I would love to be closer to Springfield but I don't want to rent out my house and look for a place in Springfield. I have pets and it would be way too complicated. It will be a pain but I feel like I can do just about anything for 17 months!

HI guys!

I got my acceptance last Friday which is still crazy to me since it was super unexpected! I am submitting my deposit tonight to secure my spot and look forward to meeting you all! Goodluck to all those on the waiting list as well!! I am currently in California still finishing my first bachelors, but will be attending the March 30th event. I believe I will be living somewhere in Springfield or nearby with a few friends who currently attend there as well, but still have to figure out a plan. I know the buses for students are free, but I think I will be bringing a car for all the travel to clinicals, but I am down to carpool since we will be surviving! haha Also, has anyone searched the facebook page, I can't seem to find it?

Hey Tim,

I will be commuting from Worcester and would be interested in carpooling. I will keep an eye out for you at the meet and greet!

Is anyone planning to move to springfield?please let me know ?

Thanks, kimberlee11!

How’s everyone doing? Since we all heard prior to March 1st, I’m hoping the waitlist outcome will be the same (sooner rather than later).

Congrats again to those accepted whom have chosen to attend!

Hey everyone!

I was pulled out of the wait-list and was accepted last week! After much deliberation, I will be giving up my spot to attend another school closer to me. I wish you all the best!!

Congrats and best wishes to you as well, SoontobeNurseCindy!
