UM ABSN SPRING 2019

Published

Hi guys!

I'm currently completing my undergrad+prereqs to apply in the next year to UM's ABSN program for the Spring 2019 session (Apps due next august). I know it's a very premature thread but I thought there might be other applicants for the Spring 2019 session who are already freaking out about apps like me. If any students who were accepted for previous threads could share their experience, tips, or stats here that would be incredibly helpful.

We got this.

thank you mebricen. which would you say is the hardest semester?

I would say second semester just because it's more busy pointless work (online, quizzes, care plans). Just a lot of things due.

do you have any pointers for us??

Hi! I am just commenting here because I was just admitted to the ABSN program at UM. I applied July 11th and heard back today!

Stats for anyone who cares:

Undergraduate: 2013 undergraduate accounting major, 3.64

Pre-req GPA: 4.0

Only medical experience is working as a medical interpreter at some volunteer clinics.

I don't have facebook, but hopefully I can connect with some of you if I accept!

:)

Go day by day and tackle what's in front of you. It's a lot. Absorb as much as you can from clinical because that's where you'll learn the most. Classes are monotonous, most professors just read off the PowerPoint presentations. For some reason, the vibe at UM nursing is very strange. People are competitive and want you to fail. So if you find someone who you can trust, for the love of the universe, help each other out! Share notes! Share study guides! It will make the ride so much easier.

Every class has an online code for quizzing and some activities (these codes are also $100+, you would think they could include it in the tuition... nope) don't stress about these, but don't fall behind. Also, most answers are on quizlet if you really look for it! And be patient, it'll be a hard year and you'll be frustrated. UM is not helpful, is you need something they will not move a finger for you. And study lol. But thats a given.

thank you so much !!

I was accepted yesterday! Graduated in 2014 in Biomedical Science with a GPA of 3.48. I think my pre-req GPA was around the same. I do have extensive medical experience because I've been a medical scribe for 4 years, and managing scribe programs for two years in different specialties. I'm still not sure about going to UM because of the cost, but I'm still going to pay to save my seat, just in case I don't get accepted anywhere else. I have an interview at FSU, but I really want to go to USF (alma mater) and would save thousands.

where else did you apply at?

No problem! Please let me know if you guys have any other questions! At the begining they don't really explain everything and it's like the blind leading the blind! I'm here for anything that could make this hell year better.

Hey guys! I am still waiting to hear and my status on CaneLink is still "Incomplete" and has been since June 19. But my Student Center just changed for the first time and shows 3 To Do List items. Did anyone else experince this? These items- transcripts and recs- are ones I have obviously already sent in June and they have a due date of "March 2018". Weird. I will email them about this too obviously.

By the way, thank you for all of the information, mebricen!
