Hi guys!
I'm currently completing my undergrad+prereqs to apply in the next year to UM's ABSN program for the Spring 2019 session (Apps due next august). I know it's a very premature thread but I thought there might be other applicants for the Spring 2019 session who are already freaking out about apps like me. If any students who were accepted for previous threads could share their experience, tips, or stats here that would be incredibly helpful.
We got this.
I applied July 27th (super late because it was a spur of the moment decision) and received my canelink about a week later and then nothingI emailed them as well and they told me the exact same thing but hopefully it's just because we applied later!
I applied on June 15 so you're in better shape than I am But on past threads a couple people had applied super early and didn't hear until September or later, from what I remember.
I'm a recent graduate from the ABSN. I can only say one thing... save your money and go to another nursing school, even if it's more time.
All UM cares about is money and reputation. They do not care about you, nor they will help you with anything. Everything is disorganized and superficial (as if it's there just to say it's there, but you won't really use it. Ex: sim hospital).
That is exactly what UM has worked for many years here. Their reputation. They want you to THINK that just by going there is a privilege and a honor that will be noticed once you leave. You'll be a UM graduate. And that's how you agree 50k in a year. While applying to jobs. I was not asked not even once if I went to UM or the nursing school at the corner of Calle ocho. Getting a job after school is near impossible. Right now, I'm doing a new grad residency. I'm with people that graduated a year ago, 8 months ago and have had no luck getting jobs. Who am I doing my residency with? Broward graduates, Miami dade graduate, Antigua university graduates. They don't have a bsn and they're standing right next to me, free of debt and getting paid the exact same salary. UM has gotten real good at this reputation and name game, everyone there is brainwashed. What's a name worth if you're not even gonna help your students. And I can't talk about the whole school. But nursing school is trash garbage. everyone has the stick so far up their ass, it's damaging their brains.

Was the sim hospital actually never used or just infrequently? And what about the resource center? The Helene Fuld skills resource center

We have one simulation per clinical rotation. And we never used the "The Helene Fuld skills resource center". We knew of it but never even saw it. I asked about it and I got "it's more for CRNA students".
