Ultrasound Guided IV cert

Published

Hi,

In my hospital there is no IV team, only RN's who are certified or are apart of IV teams at other hospitals can do USGPIV. I wanted to ask if any of you know of any places around the Philly area to get certified?

Specializes in anesthesiology.

Our hospital held a class, but honestly youtube has more than enough educational resources, and it's just practice with the machine, no magic to it.

Specializes in ICU, CVICU, E.R..

Totally agree. I would also suggest watching several YouTube Videos and understand the concept, the basics, preparation and such. Then if you have a facility that checks you off for the US guided PIV class, sign up and there's nothing to it.

Specializes in Cardio-thoracic Surgery Recovery and Resuscitation.

I agree with what the others have already stated. I think attending an extra course outside of your facility is probably overkill. Our facility didn't start with a standardized course until this year. When starting off I self taught myself with youtube videos and using the ultrasound on myself to understand the difference between normal venous and arterial anatomy.

I don't think there is a current standard national certification for USGPIVs.

Specializes in critical care.

YouTube does a great job with teaching you the theory of inserting ultrasound IVs. I would definitely ask some of the nurses with experience to teach you hands-on. There's nothing like having someone physically helping move your hands so that you can understand what you're looking at, anatomically.
