UK RN to New York

Published

Hello fellow nurses. I am currently 4 years out of nursing school and working in Australia in Paediatrics as a RN. I did my BSc in Adult nursing in London. I am wondering if there are any UK nurses who got licensed in NY. I have just applied for the CGFNS last night. I understand I may need to do maternity ect. Second question anyone know of any schools in NY or the USA that offers this?

Thanks

Charlie :)

Hello, I have just received my registration for NY state of education following my NCLEX. I am a UK nurse and I am looking for some advise on the application for jobs in NYC. Has anyone started the process of applying for jobs and getting visas sorted? I am also wondering if anyone has used recruitment agencies in the process. Any help would be great. Also happy to give advise for anyone going through the process with CGFNS and NYSED.

Thanks,

Sally

Hello Sally,

Congratulations! Did you apply through CGFNS or direct to New York State? I sent you a direct message.

Hi I would be interested to know if you did your training in the uk as I am looking to go to USA as a nurse. Thanks

Hi Leoni, yes I graduated in 2018 in the UK. My university was very good with sending through all my training modules that CGFNS require. Process from applying to completing NCLEX took 9 months. So a bit slow but worth it. Just looking for next steps for moving there now.

That's good to know because there is a lot of negative feedback from uk trained nurses trying to go USA with not meeting requirements. Thank you

Hey, I havent actually tried to start that yet. Are you applying independently or are you applying through a nurse recruiter? I have no idea where to start..

Hi can anyone advise please am I more likely to get ATT if I apply direct to NY BON or CGFNS ? I also have been offered contracts with different agencies but not sure what to do incase my credentials don't match.  Thanks

Hi Leoni

Did you apply directly to NY BON or CGFNS?

I am UK RN wanting to apply to NY or Texas

Hi

I have decided to go through agency instead of doing it by myself. My CGFNS report is complete and my CES has now been sent to BON Illinois just waiting now for decision.

Thank you for replying

I too will apply through a direct hire agency but they have requested that I pass the NCLEX first. I will need to apply to a nursing board of my choice to obtain my ATT.

Good luck, would you mind keeping me updated?

Yeah sure no problem. I applied through Medpro no need to pass NCLEX first with them.

Okay, that's good to know I will contact them.  I would prefer direct hire, been advised that there is more flexibility.  Is Illinois your first choice in terms of BON?

Assuming you're an adult nurse, did you manage to complete gain hours in any of the following: paeds,  gynae, obstetrics mental health and community/GP placement?

I wasn't fortunate enough to gain hours in any of these areas. Although I did have a community placement within the district nursing team.
