UK RN to New York

Published

Hello fellow nurses. I am currently 4 years out of nursing school and working in Australia in Paediatrics as a RN. I did my BSc in Adult nursing in London. I am wondering if there are any UK nurses who got licensed in NY. I have just applied for the CGFNS last night. I understand I may need to do maternity ect. Second question anyone know of any schools in NY or the USA that offers this?

Thanks

Charlie :)

I didn't choose BON the agency did but that doesn't mean I will be placed there it's just to get license. I am an adult nurse my placements did include all areas but my university say they can't provide a breakdown in hours clinical/theory. CGFNS has however accepted their explanation for this. So just hoping BON don't reject my application.

Okay, that's good to know I will contact them.  I would prefer direct hire, been advised that there is more flexibility.  Is Illinois your first choice in terms of BON?

Assuming you're an adult nurse, did you manage to complete gain hours in any of the following: paeds,  gynae, obstetrics mental health and community/GP placement?

I wasn't fortunate enough to gain hours in any of these areas. Although I did have a community placement within the district nursing team.

Just to clarify, when I got my CES report there was a clause that said my degree was to an "American Standard" which made me think they were happy I had enough hours in each subject.

I ended up coming over the PA on an L2 visa as a spousal visa. I did apply to the PA BON but at the time I had a lot going on so opted to do the nursing side of things when I'm here. I wasn't aware they could reject your application despite your CES report saying it was "to an American Standard" is that correct?

Many thanks

As far as I'm aware the BON makes the final decision and they can say no. Did you get your ATT yet

I haven't yet. I kind of abandoned it all in the upheaval of moving to the states. I'm not ready for my NCLEX yet either so going to do all this in the coming months.

CGFNS is a licensing credential service, that evaluates foreign nursing licences on behalf of the chosen BON.  If successful you will receive CES report providing authorisation/ATT  from BON to sit the NCLEX.

@ ScottishNurse 22 BSN  If the BON are satisfied that your UK nursing licence is equivalent to the USA nursing licence I would imagine you should receive authorisation to sit your NCLEX.

It is very challenging for us UK nurses. I will continue to remain positive, many on this platform have been successful

Please any UK nurse who has successfully had their UK license approved correct me if I am mistaken.

Okay let me post briefly what she said. As an adult nurse, she was deficient in peds, obs&gyn, mental health when she applied for CFGNS. How did she eventually get comparable result? During her last placement in nursing school, she requested for community placements, there she met MH patients, children, followed health visitors who were seeing babies. She had to tell her assessor to write an official letter, stating how many hours she spent taking care of MH, child and pregnant women. She took this letter to her dean and her dean approved the hours. Her dean then wrote a letter to CGFNS, stating she had placements in these areas. Included her transcripts, curriculum and hours. This was how she made up the clinical aspect.

For theory, in her foundation year, these areas where incorporated in each of their courses. With these CGFNS assessed her credentials to become comparable to the US standard. You can also try using ERES (it is limited t9 certain states). So if you have graduated, check to see if you had community placements you should be able to make up these hours.

I hope this helps

Hello I'm a mental health nurse in Uk and I would like to start my USA RN process. Please can I get any advice?
Do I have to take some courses? Or placements?
