UIC vs Depaul Graduate Entry Programs

Published

Does anyone know much about the new UIC direct entry graduate program? I know that Depaul has had a program for a couple years, does anyone have an opinion on it? UIC?

I'm in the process of applying to programs and am originally from Chicago and those are the 2 schools in the area. Does anyone know how well they compare to other areas?

thanks

Hello Maxs,

They sent out the letters on Tuesday, May 17th. I got an email reply saying that I was not accepted.

It took me a day to get over it but, am over it and realize the weak spots in my application. It is a good idea to make certain that your essay lists a very specific and definitive interst, (I think mine looked to broad as my interests are broad.)

I applied for adult health and really should have made my application to community health.

Good news is that I am going to give it a full hearted try for DePaul.

They are more expensive but are also the oldest Master's entry program in the area and really do know what they are doing. :)

p.s. they make their decisions I think by this May 27th!! (yeah, I will be flying up there this week with my completed essay and application check!)

Gen, I am sorry to hear that, I hope you are okay. And I hope you get accepted to Depaul. Best of luck to you.

Hey,

This might be redundant b/c I didn't read many of the postings but I know if you get a certain GPA in your undergrad nursing program (I think it's a 3.25, I may be wrong) then you don't even have to take the GREs!!!! Unless you plan on going into the CRNA program or for a Dr in nursing research/ed.

Does UIC have a CRNA program?

Hi Max!

I'm not Genn, but no, UIC does not have a CRNA program.

Rush is supposed to have one of the best in the country. :)

Thank you Maxs!

I took my packet up on the 27th. Even though all of my former transcripts were not in, (as last minute they were in the mail so, for some former universities I used un-official).

I really hope to get in DePaul!

If this one is not the one then I will also maybe give Rush's one year BSN a try, otherwise there is the Associate that I am registered for this fall.

Have either of you heard from DePaul University yet? I applied for the Fall '05 term but still have not heard from them.

Hello Twinkles,

I have not heard yet. However, I only just sent my most final transcripts in on Friday, (to complete my package.)

I started my applicaiton way earlier and brought the completed packet with some unofficial transcripts up on May 27th, (one of their decision days I guess).

What I do know is that the first rounds decisions were sent and then the first round of student declines came back. I know, declines?

Then they second round student decsions were sent out. Last I double checked I was told that once those declines come back then they would review to see if any available seats were open.

Did you send your packet in by the April 1 deadline?

Why not feel free to give them a call? I have been a downright pain in the butt, I am sure, to their wonderful and helpful graduate student coordinator.

Good luck!!

I turned my application in before the deadline. There was an issue with my transcripts being accidentally sent to the undergraduate office. Finally I am told that everything is in place and they're going to review it. Hopefully, I'll hear something from them soon.

Twinkles,

Darn about the misdirected t-scripts.

Even though my application was filled out in February, I didn't bring everything else in total in until after the dealine.

I was planning on just brining it all in by the Aug 1 deadline for the winter start but, their coordinator actually said to go ahead and give it a shot for the fall. Somehow though, I don't think that will happen.

The reason is that I am not currently taking my final pre-req of organic chem!

So, I sent a note asking them to please consider me for the winter start. I also said that if somehow I was accepted for the fall that I would take my organic chemistry immediately, online to complete that pre-req.

In the meanwhile, I ended up getting called from Dominican Univeristy, which I had applied to in February also, (for the Master in Social Work).

I am waiting to hear from both.

Good luck!

p.s. keep us posted!

Thank you for your help. I hope I can get into the program this Fall. I wish you luck with your application.

Hello gain Twinkles,

Even though I am also waiting for another non-nursing program, (which truly hope to deferr until completion of the RN) I think I may also try for Rush January start of one year BSN.

Thier application deadline is July 1st.

Good luck,

Hello Twinkles,

Any news yet? I hope you called them to see how it looks, (can't hurt really).

I phoned to ask if my packet was re-dated for the winter quarter and found out that the person that originally said it would be graduated and no longer works there!

It turned out okay though. It is now changed.

My fingers are crossed. The winter deadline is August 1.

They do take the applications into consideration by the date they are received. So, we could become early contenders for the fall if not taken for the Spring, (have to ask first).

Good luck, give them a call!

You mean early contenders for Spring if not taken in for Fall?

I am not very impressed the way they have handled my application. I have a 3.36 GPA and GRE (Quan 613, Verb 548). I am sure if they had not screwed up on my transcripts I had a chance to get in this Fall.

Anyways, I will call them and find out what is going. Have you any knowledge about other schools with direct msn. other than UIC and DePaul? Out of state is fine. What about a school that would offer associates degree, but consider out-of-district students?
