UIC Graduate Entry Program

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Published

Hi folks,

Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?

My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...

From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?

Got in for PNP! I'm very excited (although I wish it started sooner, I don't want to wait almost a year before starting!). Is someone creating a facebook group?

@sarasays Yes! I am going to enroll 100%!

Someone should definitely create a Facebook group! How do we do that?

Congrats to all that got in :)

Congrats @katherinewerner and everyone wait listed!! That's better than nothing!! I was not accepted so I will be going to DePaul!! @jmonkeyjen I hope you get off the wait list for UIC but if not, see you in the fall!!

For the DePaul program, do you pick a specialty also or is it a general master's program? If you get a general master's, how do you specialize later? How long is the DePaul program?

@elaurance See you at DePaul in the fall!! DePaul is a 2 year masters generalist program where you do not specialize-but graduate with MSN. Additionally, several of the graduate classes you take during DePaul's MENP program transfer over to other Masters/DNP specialized programs at DePaul. Supposedly, one can become a FNP within a year at DePaul after graduating from DePaul's MENP==as long as they work while attending DePaul's FNP master's certificate program. However, many students choose to work full time after graduating with MSN; and enrolling part time in DePaul's DNP program or NP graduate certificate program. I think UIC is actually changing their GEP program next year to be a generalist Masters Program like DePaul and Rush University (and several other universities). DePaul was first university to offer Generalist Masters Program in nursing. http://csh.depaul.edu/academics/graduate/nursing/Documents/GeneralNursingMENP6-1-11.pdf

Thank you for the info. Do they do interviews at DePaul?

@Tuckella DePaul does not do interviews, which is kind of nice! I was accepted pretty quickly after sending in my application, but maybe part of that is because it's my alma mater.

Good to know. I only applied to UIC, and now that I didn't get it, I would have to take even more pre-reqs in order to apply to other schools, but it looks like with DePaul I wouldn't. Have you talked to any students or heard about how the program is?

you guys all got notified by email?.... i didn't get any emails from UIC yet

Yes, we were notified by email. Check your spam?

nothing. thanks. I'll just wait...................and...........................wait.............
