Hi folks,
Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?
My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...
From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?
@rain, I felt the same in regard to being younger than the other applicants. I arrived after everyone though so I wasn't able to talk to the others as much about their degrees, ages, etc. During the info session, the director actually spoke to those with psychology degrees and mentioned that this program was not for psychologists who wished to have the ability to prescribe, but that they were training us to become nurses etc. I thought that was interesting, but since I don't have a degree in Psych, I didn't pay too much attention to it until you mentioned who your interview group consisted of.Looking at last year's thread, they found out about their status on May 2nd. Let's hope we are as lucky!
Yes, and the nursing actually entails medicine which requires a hard science background. Most people didn't even have anatomy and physio as pre Reqs ... Those hard sciences were still yet to be taken... So I hope that factors in when reviewing the application.
Katherine - Iam 23 :)
I'm also young (22), but remember that some older applicants may also have just recently taken the science pre-reqs while transitioning from another career! In some ways I feel less prepared than older applicants, who might have more "life experience" to bring to the table, but then of course us younger applicants bring with us different traits and strengths.
Well considering they had about 28 applicants for psych (7 each day earlier and around 15 in our session)... And if they are accepting around 14 people that's almost 1/2. I think we will be okay. Stay positive. There's nothing you can do at this point but remain hopeful and determined about the near future.:)
Haha I know I know, I still worry though! I just think 12-13 accepted sounds too high. I know someone in acute care entering class of '11, and there are only 4 psych people in his class. I'm really hoping 12-13 is the correct though!
I'm one of those with a psych degree, but I took all the pre-med classes in case I wanted to do the med school route one day so I have physics, bio, chem, biochem, organic chem, etc. I'm a few years out of college and A&P wasn't a pre-req at my school, so I'm taking it now. In fact, I should really get off this forum and be studying for my A&P test now haha.
There were like 5 male applicants in my 22nd interview pool. And its funny because when I spoke with them - each of them were like "Oh I thought I got an interview because I was a male and then I walked in the room and saw 4 other males" hahaha....one of them was kind enough to get me cookies from the vending machine because I was starving lol
such lovely people, i tell ya. we should all just get accepted!
