Hi folks,
Thinking about applying to UIC's GEP program. Anybody here applied and was accepted? What were your stats?
My stats: 3.2 Overall GPA/3.5 Sci BA in Sociology. Office Manager in home health care, tech in a medical equipment co, medical assistant (no cert) in dr's office and later office manager there. Volunteering in Nursing Home around 120 hours...
From what I can tell on their website, after completing the NCLEX, you immediately start the master portion of the program. Is this correct?
Lovely! Yes, I remember you too. Were you the one with the flight right after?
A little nervous that you remember that I had the flight to get to... Do you think it left a bad impression? Honestly? I would have been fine leaving at 4, but I just wasn't sure if I went last, I'd get out by 4.

No you wouldn't have gotten out by 4. I was out by 445.... And the interviews were supposed to end by 4. And there were 2 more people to be interviewed. I felt a little rushed at my interview but I had cues from her telling me that I am doing well and she liked me so I am pretty positive about my interview right now. I offered her a cookie because I wanted her to get her sugar blood levels up because she was so tired! Haha ...
And no, you didn't leave a bad impression. You have a flight to catch! It's understandable :)
Didn't she say 20 total, so including GEP students and also those people who are applying directly to the master's program? I could be wrong though. I don't think there were 6 interview dates for our exact program. Maybe that was including other psych programs or something.
What did you think of the applicant pool? Competitive? Semi- competitive? Or did you even get a chance to speak with everyone? And how did your Skype interview go?! :/

Okay thanks - that makes me feel better. I'd hate to look inflexible or something.

I'm not sure. I was so nervous before my interview I didn't really talk to anyone in detail. I talked to one girl from CT and one from Colorado. Both seemed friendly, but didn't really ask them about school or experience. What did you think?
The skype interview went well I think. She was very nice but it was weird talking to a monitor instead of an actual person. I missed that person-to-person contact and am hoping that I'm not at any sort of disadvantage because of that. I'm hoping she has just as much of a say as the other two interviewers who were there in person. How long did your last? Mine only lasted about 20-25 minutes. I felt like I could have said so much more.
Good to hear yours went well!
Ha I felt like mine lasted for 15-20 mins. The earlier applicants took forever which pushed her behind schedule. Oh I could have said so much more but my application speaks for it. I asked her if there's anything else she needed to know about me that would help her make that final decision. Lol... She said not really. I mean, my answers varied - I elaborated on the ones that I needed to speak more about and kept concise and to the point on the others. I didn't wanna be considered as a rambler.

Yeah I'm worried I rambled a little bit haha. We'll see... I'm pretty confident in my application, but hoping I didn't say or do anything in the interview to mess that up and hoping she has equal say in the process.
What did you think of the other applicants?
They were much much older- that's the first thing i noticed. So I got a little intimidated, but I told myself with age doesn't always come experience and wisdom. Lol.... They were all really kind hearted wonderful individuals with mostly psych degrees. I am not too sure if they had enough clinical exposure but they did seem to have research under their belts. Most of them also had other opportunities and scholarships from other universities and told me that even if they got UIC, they may reject it.

Interesting. Well if I don't get in, hopefully I at least make it to a waiting list (if they have one). I really wish I knew how many were going to be accepted for sure though.

Well considering they had about 28 applicants for psych (7 each day earlier and around 15 in our session)... And if they are accepting around 14 people that's almost 1/2. I think we will be okay. Stay positive. There's nothing you can do at this point but remain hopeful and determined about the near future.:)
