I haven't seen a UIC 2017 GEM thread yet.
Any tips for interviews or what to expect in the program?
Has anyone heard back yet?
Hmmm, don't think it saved my first response.
Anyway, the first 30 minutes were them answering basic questions about the program with all 85 interviewees.
After that we broke into groups of 4 or 5 for the group interview portion. There were four 45 minute sessions and 3-4 groups going at the same time.
I was the first session of the day; there were supposed to be 5 of us all together, 3 via skype. One of the Skype people couldn't connect so there were 2 of us in person and 2 conferenced in via skype on a television.
Overall it was very relaxed. We had a bunch of laughs as we were all trying to figure out the configuration. The two faculty members interviewing us were very kind and made the interview feel like a group of friends meeting at a coffee shop.
We were asked very basic things:
Tell me about yourself.
Why do you want to become a nurse?
What is the biggest issue in healthcare and why?
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Overall I feel it went very well and I can't wait to hear back. They are trying to get out acceptance letters by the end of March this year.

I'm not sure either. I know someone else who received an invitation a couple of weeks before I did, so it seems like they didn't send them out all at once. The questions they asked in the mock interviews were nothing crazy and were pretty similar to interviews for other programs. Good luck and hope to see you at the real interviews, as well!
