2017 UIC Graduate Entry Master of Science Program (GEM)

Nursing Students School Programs

I haven't seen a UIC 2017 GEM thread yet.

Any tips for interviews or what to expect in the program?

Has anyone heard back yet?

I'm not sure either. I know someone else who received an invitation a couple of weeks before I did, so it seems like they didn't send them out all at once. The questions they asked in the mock interviews were nothing crazy and were pretty similar to interviews for other programs. Good luck and hope to see you at the real interviews, as well!

Hi everyone!

Did anyone interview today who would like to share a little about their experience?

Thank you!

Hmmm, don't think it saved my first response.

Anyway, the first 30 minutes were them answering basic questions about the program with all 85 interviewees.

After that we broke into groups of 4 or 5 for the group interview portion. There were four 45 minute sessions and 3-4 groups going at the same time.

I was the first session of the day; there were supposed to be 5 of us all together, 3 via skype. One of the Skype people couldn't connect so there were 2 of us in person and 2 conferenced in via skype on a television.

Overall it was very relaxed. We had a bunch of laughs as we were all trying to figure out the configuration. The two faculty members interviewing us were very kind and made the interview feel like a group of friends meeting at a coffee shop.

We were asked very basic things:

Tell me about yourself.

Why do you want to become a nurse?

What is the biggest issue in healthcare and why?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Overall I feel it went very well and I can't wait to hear back. They are trying to get out acceptance letters by the end of March this year.

Waiting is so hard :(

at least it's only a month this time around and not 2. :alien:

Anyone know how many people were interviewed and how many spots are open?

About 180/190 people interviewed and there are 55 slots that are available

Has anyone heard anything about admissions decision yet? I emailed last week, and was told that they would try to get decisions out by last Friday. I need to accept or deny other programs by the end of March, so it would be great to have some time to weigh options.

I haven't heard anything, but I was under the impression they wouldn't have decisions out until the end of March. At least that's what they said in the interview session.

I have not heard anything either, in my session they said mid-march for decisions!

I went for the first day of interviews, and Michael the admissions director said they were aiming to have them out at the end of March instead of the end of April which was the initial time line.

Either way, I hope we get them soon. And good luck to everyone!

I emailed Michael just now, he said they will be out by the end of the month for GEM admissions.
