UIC GEP 2013

Nursing Students Post Graduate

Anyone applying to UIC's graduate entry program starting Jan. 2013? I've glanced at the threads from the past couple of year's and thought I'd start one for the next application cycle. I'm finishing up pre-reqs and taking the GRE in a month. Good luck to all who plan on applying!

Hey guys!

I'm currently in the GEP 2012 class. I know that most of you, if you're anything like me, are waiting not so patiently to hear about interviews. Even though they told us it would be about a month, I waited a week and checked my email as well as this website several times a day to see if I, or others, had received any news.

Take a deep breath. Be patient. DON'T religiously check this website because people get word about interviews at different times. It's just gonna stress you out WAY too much if you hear some people got word about interviews and you haven't yet.

For those who do get invited for interviews - DON'T stress about it. I was a nervous wreck until it was my turn to interview and I ended up just having a conversation with my interviewer. You're really just chatting with someone who loves healthcare even more than you do! Every single faculty member at UIC that I have met so far has been SO nice. I did some stupid research to prep for the interview. Not. Necessary. It just made me more nervous. Just remember who you are and why you even want to be a part of the program and that's all you really need! If you're invited for an interview it already means you're qualified. You just need to prove to your interviewer that you're a good fit for the program. No problem!

Good luck!

can I ask you a few questions?

I emailed Julie Kim yesterday to see if she had a timeline for when we'd hear back about interviews. She said:

"no notification yet, we are just about to begin the review.

Thank you for your patience"

Hopefully the review will only take a couple of weeks, then we'll know if we're on to the next step!

Thank you for posting this! I feel better knowing that. Good luck to everyone patiently waiting. This is so stressful! What specialty did everyone apply for? I applied to the FNP track. I hope my credentials are good enough :(

I've applied to FNP as well. I work at UIC in OB/GYN in the College of Medicine right now. Hoping my credentials are good enough too! I was a Community Health major at U of I in Champaign undergrad, and have worked here at UIC for a year. I have some volunteer and related research experience, but I know how competitive this process is! Good luck to all!

I applied to the Midwifery/Women's Health specialty. Feeling more and more nervous everyday!! Still working to finish pre-requisites. Good luck to everyone

I applied to the FNP too! Since there are only like 10 spots for it, I hope all of us make it in! I don't have much in terms of health care work experience, but I'm trying to get a volunteer job at a local hospital and I got my EMT license in January that I haven't used yet because I'm trying to finish my A&P prerequisites right now.

Anyway, eagerly anticipating an interview....good luck to all!

Hey! I'm a senior at UConn (graduating in May) but am moving home to Taylor Street right by UIC this summer. I am taking a year off before I am applying to UIC's GEP program because I am still considering Med School as well...I am just curious about your job in OB/GYN at the Medical School? I am looking for a job in the medical field for my year off, some in research at UIC and Rush. I would really like to do more clinical work or work a hospital setting. Unfortunately there's no pay for those volunteering jobs! I was wondering if you just got the job out of graduating U of I? I'm just curious what you're job entails and if you know anyone in that department I could contact? I would really appreciate anything because its hard to find a job when you only have a BS degree. I majored in physiology and neurobiology/minored in neuroscience aand have basic research/ volunteering experience. Not really sure how all this works but let me know if you have any advice!

Hi, I also applied to the FNP track. I graduate from U of I two years ago and I currently work at University of Chicago as a program coordinator for a clinical trial.

I am also nervous waiting to hear by about interviews. According to the UIC GEP 2012 forums they started to hear back about interviews around this time but it seems like there is a delay this time around.

Good Luck to everyone

Does anyone know how many spots are available this cycle for women's health track?

Hi everyone!! I applied for the PNP speciality and just found out that I was offered an interview! I was just wondering if anyone knew how many people received interviews/will be accepted for the peds track?? Thanks!!

Congrats!! I heard there were roughly 7-10 people accepted per specialty last year. Good luck at your interview!
