UIC GEP Applicants 2015

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everyone! I just applied for Fall 2015 entry to the Graduate Entry Program at UIC! Anyone else apply? I'm hoping to talk to some other people who are also excited/nervous about hearing back! :-)

I think my application was strong academically and in terms of the essays and recs, but I started my prereqs right after graduating last spring so I haven't had time to get any hands-on health care experience, which I hope won't be too much of a negative on my app. Does anyone know what kind of GPA and experience they look for? Also- does everyone have to interview?

Good luck guys! I hope we all make it in!!

Hi guys! So it wasn't too bad. We didn't do any group exercises. The people interviewing us asked one questions and we all had to answer it. Personally, I don't like group interviews because I don't think they get to know the person as well. In my opinion, they didn't ask the typical kinds of questions. They wanted to see how passionate you are about nursing and what excites you about the field. As well as just keeping up with the current healthcare system. I think they do change up the questions from interview to interview to keep it fair but I don't know that for a fact. Hopefully it goes well for all of us :)

Thank you soni7! Very kind of you to fill us in :-)

Hey everybody! It is so nice reading everybody's posts! I have my interview on Monday and am traveling from Seattle.

Is anyone else planning on going straight to the DNP route after this program? The power point made it seem like that was the norm? I have emailed the DNP coordinator with questions about program length and acceptance rate from this program to the DNP program- but does anyone have any other info? I have my heart set on becoming a CNM- I have been accepted to accbac-CNM program in New England but am pretty into the DNP program at UIC. This program starts in the Fall right? So many questions! Best of luck to everybody!

hello! good luck on your interview Monday! :)

It seems that its most important to get experience as a RN before jumping into a DNP program. Even 1-2 years would be good. UIC's program is new (the first cohort was Fall 2014). This program is 2.5 years they said. Another concerning aspect is that this programs rewards you with an MS. While most other programs is the Masters in Nursing. I heard that its harder to get jobs and isn't always liked. I'm not really into the whole MS thing especially if i'll have problems later on getting a good job or getting into DNP programs at schools other than UIC. I would really need to talk to some faculty at UIC about this because it concerns me.

Hi guys,

So I was wondering what power point is everyone talking about... I received the email to sign up for an interview, but it only has a link to the sign up page and a pdf attachment with general information about the interview. And everyone is talking about some power point somewhere... I'm confused...

It is just one e-mail that was received. At the top of the email is the link where you can sign up for your interview, the bottom part of the email has a link that leads you to a page where you can download the power point in different formats. The power point is nothing overly detailed, just general tidbits about the school and their program & things to expect. Maybe your browser didn't let you scroll to the bottom? or try viewing the email on a different device? If your e-mail was def cut off, I would e-mail the school or call tomorrow ASAP so you can look at it!

Hi ginger_99, and thank you for responding. The email I received has a link to the sign up page on top, a link with their address in the body of the email that only leads to a map, and a link with directions on how to get there at the bottom of the page. There is another link to their website at the very end of the email, after the phone numbers and stuff...and a pdf attachment with general information about the interview. Is this the same email you guys have? None of these links leads to any kind of power point. That is why I'm so confused when everyone is mentioning the power points. I don't want to miss out on something that could be important.

Hmmm....I would definitely email then tonight. Sounds like they forgot to include a chunk of the email to you!!

I had my interview yesterday and I think it went alright! I was very nervous going in, but it was much more relaxing than other interviews I've been on. I don't feel like they gained any new insight though because the questions were fairly similar to the essays. Perhaps this was to just to get a little bit of facetime? I'm sure the interview will just be one component of the admissions package the committee will look at when making the final decisions. Good luck to everyone!

So glad that interview is done! I agree though! It was very friendly. Eeek now we just have to wait. We hear by mid-April, right?

Hey everyone! I'm just double checking...we should be hearing back around mid-april correct? Does anyone know if they mentioned an earlier date? I'm getting super anxious!

That's what I heard, too, mid-April.
