UIC Entry MS for non-RNs

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi! I didn't see a thread so I thought I'd start one.

I just got an invitation for an interview today--eek! Anyone else?

Any tips/knowledge of what types of questions get asked in these interviews?

Good luck, everyone!

Hello! Congratulations!! I also got an invitation to interview about 2 days ago! So I was looking through other threads and it seems that they may do group interviews I believe. Last year, per one of the threads, they asked: current issues in the world of nursing/healthcare, your best characteristics, describe a failure and how you overcame and tie it back to nursing.

Hello! I have applied but haven't heard anything back yet. But I have been reading last year's thread and....it's scary haha. Did you get the actual interview or the mock interview?

Hi all! I'm doing my interview with UIC on Feb 14! I'm wondering if anyone's able to share their stats? I have no idea how competitive this program is. My undergrad is a ba in education and accumulative GPA of 3.68. I currently work as a clinical research coordinator and had good letters of rec from my PI and NP. however I only had two of the pre reqs completed and they were from an undesirable program. Good luck everyone!!

Hey Kurso! Congratulation on your interview, I also have mine on February 15th ?. I heard it is pretty competitive (about 300 applicants and only 70-80 seats) but I would not worry, if I were you LOL. Your stats sound great and you have clinical experience. I have a lower GPA than you and no clinical experience ?. I also haven't finished all my prerequisites either (currently working on my last two) and I've done them at a Oakton College because it is cheaper ?. So, you're good! You've got this! Good luck and let us know how it went!

Hi!

Just did my interview yesterday, pretty nerve racking but overall not too bad.

I am a bit nervous how competitive it is, but I am hopeful for a position.

Can't wait to hear about how you all got in :-)

Hi @katieUSAF!! I was able to do mine yesterday too! I feel like I blacked out- it went so quickly.

It's going to be so difficult waiting a month for decisions ?

I KNOW!

I got so nervous at the end that after the interview, I just left the meeting and didn't go back into the meeting space. I am hoping that nothing else was mentioned afterwards. haha.

Best of luck to you! I am going to go crazy thinking about admission. My back up plans have fallen apart so UIC is my first and only option right now (which is scary considering the competition)

Hi girls @katieUSAF and @Kurso ! I am so happy for you guys! I have my interview tomorrow and I am so nervous! I am not a good public speaker and I definitely not good at "selling myself" LOL.

Would you guys mind sharing a few details? Like the kind of questions they asked and how many other students were there? Also how was the overall vibe, did it feel like a competition or was it a relaxed?

Sorry for all these questions, I'm also ran out of options and I am so worried about tomorrow! ?

Thank you!

@danaa of course! It was a group interview, about 5 interviewees total (including myself) in a breakout room with two faculty members. They'll ask a question and then everyone answers round robin style.

The questions were very straightforward. Things like, what are your strengths, what can you bring to the nursing profession. It was very casual! I would say just be mindful of your time and try to keep your answers succinct.

@Kurso Thanks for the insight! I have mine tomorrow. By any chance, was there room for questions?

Hi @nello! You're gonna do great! Our room didn't have time left for questions. But, when you're done in the breakout room, you can go back to the main room and ask any questions you have. We didn't have time to ask meaningful interview questions to the faculty though.
