UHV 2nd Degree BSN 2015 Applicants

Published

Anyone else plan on applying in August?

Holy Cow! Future Nurse3's post scared me. We all have a degree from other majors and want to switch to nursing. If UHV swept 17 out of 60 students in the first semester, that is is more than 25%. Without standing letters, they have a very limited chance to get into other nursing programs.

Jennytmuw, do you have any information about fast-track BSN programs in UTHSC-Houston and UTMB? Did they kick that much students out?

Thank you in advance!

Hi @txsky ! I'm sorry for the delay in answering your question. I have a couple friends in the traditional UTMB nursing program in the Spring '14 start. The traditional program is 4 semesters that include the summer. One stated that there were about 170-180 of who started in January and now there's about 130 and the number will decrease by the 3rd semester because the 2nd semester was extremely rough.

My other bud stated there's probably like 10-20 students per semester out of about 125 that withdraw/dropout.

One friend who is in UTMB's accelerated, summer '14 start, stated that there have been no dropouts/withdrawals so far.

One friend mentioned that if you choose UTMB you shouldn't be worried about that as long as you have a strong support team, along with a great study group, tutoring, and that if you use your time wisely you will be fine.

Deadline day! Good luck everyone.

I am an alumni from the class of 2011, which was UHV's 3rd graduating class of the Accelerated BSN program.

There were MANY bumps along the way, and it sounds like the school still has some kinks to work out, but I love the fact that I attended UHV in Sugar Land, and I loved most of my professors. I DO remember all of the dean's rules, but lots of people broke them. I had a very challenging year, and I believe that only half of my class actually ended up graduating.

i CAN tell you that because of the intensity of the program, I was able to get hired directly into an emergency room position, which I have kept until about a week ago. I now work at Texas Children's Hospital in my dream job, and wouldn't change anything about my road that led me to where I am. During school, I was a single parent, but didn't work. I'm pretty sure all of my family suffered right along with me, but now we are also all reaping the rewards.

It's intense, but with dedication and willingness to be open minded.....and put in lots of hard work, you can succeed in the program.

Thanks so much for posting your experience aret21! I was glad to read a positive comment on this program.

...on further note does anyone know when in September interview decisions will be sent out? The website states September but doesn't specify. I'm so anxious! ..Good Luck to all! :-)

I called the other day and she said September 22nd...I was hoping it would be earlier. Still crossing my fingers they will come before that. Good luck!

There actually won't be an interview this year. I contacted UHV during the summer after the web site was updated to verify. I'm still anxious all the same.

WOW!!!! Thanks for the update. Good luck :)

thanks for the info kiinkofan06 ! that's interesting that they are not doing interviews this year. At least we'll get to know sooner

Hello Everyone. Thank you for posting the information you all have found out so far, but I am still unsure as to what is going to happen on September 22nd.

Will the school be sending out acceptance emails on September 22nd since their will not be interviews this year? Or since the interviews are no longer required, has the acceptance date been pushed out to the last week of September (the 29th is a Monday)?

Does anyone know if enrollment can be deferred after acceptance?

Thank you again for any information provided!

My assumption is we get an invitation to join around September 22 along with information about completing the drug screening, background check, immunization requirements and CPR certification. Final approval into the program would rely on finishing/passing these requirements.

I don't have any information about deferring.

Best of luck!

Thank you! I appreciate your help!

I finished my application back in July and did not know interviews had been removed until I read the most recent posts yesterday! I am super excited to find out!

And I totally made a grammatical error in my original post.

"Their" should be "there."

txsky...sorry I can't PM you...I guess you have to have 35 posts before they allow you to PM anyone :( I hope we all get in!
