UH Manoa GEPN Cohort 2017

U.S.A. Hawaii

Published

I know I'm extremely early for this discussion but I'm considering on applying for the UH Manoa GEPN program for Fall 2017 (applications submission starts Sept 2016).

Anyone out there considering on applying next year also? If so what educational background/field of work are you coming from?

for existing mepn/gepn student section, do you have any advice for future applicants?

Hi Everyone!

I applied to the program in January. I hadn't heard anything so I decided to send the GEPN coordinator an email. His response was that I would receive an admission notification in the next 2 to 4 weeks. Did anyone else get that response? He did not say I was waitlisted but he did not indicate whether I have been accepted or not.

Based on what others are saying about being notified by email that they were accepted I do not think I got in.

Thoughts?

Stay positive! I know it's frustrating waiting to hear, but have faith. Regardless if you get into this program you can still achieve your goal at another program. I'm on island and a lot of local kids have been rejected. Some of the people I have spoken with applied in January and were notified of their rejection this past week. Right now no news is not necessarily bad news. Remember...if there is a will there is a way and we need nurses!!!!! If this program doesn't work out start to search other programs on the CAS system. Good luck and stay positive no matter what information you recieve. If you want it you will get it no matter where you study!

I applied in early November and I'm still waiting. I also emailed them and the reply was similar. I'm sure they'll make a decision soon. Good luck to us all!

After applying in the 2016 cycle and was waitlisted but to no avail, and again for the 2017 cycle I was rejected early on in the application process, I decided to apply elsewhere. Most recently, I was accepted into the Chaminade School of Nursing Program for this Fall, and am excited about my decision. Goodluck to all who got in to GEPN!

I applied first week of November and I just received my acceptance letter via email. Very excited!!! Now I just need to take the "research method" course in summer before 8/1/17 and hopefully I can do it online. Good luck to everyone else waiting.

I did not get in - received my rejection letter yesterday. Here's hoping I get into one of the 4 other schools I applied to.

Best of luck to everyone!

I want to say I'm sorry, but I'm not because you were meant for a school that will be perfect for you. You never want to attend a program because it's good, you want to attend a program that will make you great. You have already taken the hardest steps and that is being vulnerable and applying. Trust me that this is a blessing and will only help achieve and more define your goals. Also the rejection provides you the ability to grow a "thick skin" which you will definitely use as a health care provider. You will succeed as long as continue to manifest grit and a zealous pursuit of your dreams. I know you may be sad, but stay positive and in ten years I promise you will be so grateful this happened.

Did you get notified about the AGCNS program being discontinued? I got accepted and got a call today and my option was to go into the Advanced Public Health Nursing program or decline. Of course I still accepted it. I was just curious if you still accepted. Good thing though is that it can be 2 or 3 years depending if you want full or part time for the program.

Hi everyone! First time finding this thread. I was accepted into the DNP-FNP program in November but will be relinquishing my spot. I was SO excited about Hawaii (hubby is from Maui), but unfortunately there aren't jobs in his industry. Best of luck to everyone!

Hi Everyone! So I got accepted to the APHN track! Look forward to going to school with everyone soon!

Hello! I just got pulled from the waitlist for the APHN track. I was super excited , but I am trying to figure out if I can realistically afford this program. Two questions for you guys:

-Is it necessary to have a car to get to clinicals and other classes if I am living on campus?

-Do you know of any online classes that fulfill the research prerequisite?

Thanks! I look forward to hopefully meeting some of you!

I am also in the program. I will take the research method course online through one of the UH schools. You could also take a class at your state to avoid $$ for non-residency as long as it's equivalent. As far as clinical are concerned, you will need to drive or possibly carpool with cohort--all depends on scheduling.
