Nursing Students Excelsior

I just took the first practice exam for LS2 and got a 46!! This is by far the lowest score I have received so far on any of the practice exams. I usually get somewhere in the 60s on them. I have a lot of studying to do for this test!! I am using Mental Health Nursing textbook and Saunders NCLEX and the med-surg textbook. I also have study group 101. Those who have taken this test, any advice??? I feel like I am never going to learn all of this mental health stuff!!!! Any input would be appreciated!!!

Thank you in advance!!!!

Make sure you do a search on LS2/ lifespan 2 and you will find quite a few posts with many helpful hints from previous testers. It is a tougher exam & is one exam you don't want to rush through. I got As & Bs on all of the Exceslior exams, and my study plan was note taking while reading through all of the required reading (I myself didn't like studygroup101 notes, they were dated and at times off topic in my opinion). I would take practice exam A after completing all reading and focus on my weak areas. I believe I got in the 50s (AFTER all of that reading!)on practice exam A for LS2  With these last exams, make sure you understand all of the corresponding labs, diagnostic tests, even write a nursing care plan for a patient with the disease you are studying. I would take practice exam B about one week before I tested.

Saunders is wonderful, but I wouldn't use the post tests at the end of the chapter as a guide for how much you know the material. Those post tests are much easier than Excelsior's exams. Saunders also had test questions re: insulin timing that were wrong in the post tests according the EC. The practice exams at excelsior are much like the exam you will take at Pearsonvue. I made index cards for every disease, with the symptoms & etiology, diagnostic labs, xrays, etc and nursing interventions and medications**. I also broke the content guide sections down with mind mapping which really helped me pull up visuals in my mind when I was testing. I hope this has helped some, good luck!

Thank you very much for taking the time to respond to my post!! I really appreciate your help. I usually take notes as I read but I think for this one I will do the flash cards as well. I appreciate your time and help.

No problem! Also a way to jazz up your studying is:

I hope those links are right...if not, someone will fix them soon :) These links help break up the monotony a bit. Again good luck!

No worries, you will do fine!! I took the first practice exam for micro and scored a 49!! That was after studying on and off for 2.5 months...I buckled down for a weekend and ended up passing with a B. You will be fine!

BAHHH I FAILED IT TWICE! I am so frustrated with this stinkin exam. I feel dumb!

Loops is right, flashcard exchange and quizlet offer some invaluable study guides that other people have already created. No need to start from scratch and recreate the wheel. The practice exams usually are a good guideline for what will be on the test, as well. .. Really study & know the practice exam questions.

Flashcard Exchange and Saunders NCLEX review helped me pass all three LS exams. I followed the content guide and made flashcards on flashcard exchange that I studied every spare minute I had!! Also made flashcards with the questions from Saunders!! Hope this helps and good luck. :)
