Hello Everyone!
I'm getting this forum started early for those who are applying to the UF College of Nursing's Accelerated Bachelors of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program!
Feel free to get the discussion going... How do you stand among others (GRE, GPA, etc)? Go Gators! :)
@LadyBramble, I did a cost estimate for attending UF and this is what I came up with.
GRAND TOTAL: $37,2355.25
Tuition: $14,323.25
Classes are found on the program's site and cost per hour is for the 2014-2015 school year
53 Credit Hours ($210.43 per hour)
6 Credit Hours ($528.41 per hour)
Books and Supplies: ~$4,000
This is really a best guess for textbooks, scrubs, shoes, stethoscopes, etc.
Rent: $9,712.00
I used the graduate rent for a one bedroom apartment as my estimate.
16 months (4 semesters; $607 per month)
Electricity: $2,000
estimated $125 per month for 16 months
Food and Transportation: $7,200
Food estimated at $250 per month
Transportation estimated at $200 per month
Now as far as books, supplies, food, rent, etc., I'm basing my estimated on how I have been living. You may spend more or less. Also, I did not include any sort of entertainment costs either.
The calculation for Tuition should be very close, even though for 3 out of the 4 semesters we would be in the 2015-2016 year, prices for which are not yet posted.
Also, I estimated based only on 16 months rather than 18 because I'll probably move back in with my parents while I'm studying for the NCLEX and all that.
Hope this helps.
Well, geesh. I thought this program was 12 months. But I was looking at the setup and it looks more like 14 months. May to May is one year and then there's an extra June and July which would be 14. Because I thought Summer A is June, summer B is July and summer C is stretched across A and B?
The program is actually 15 months, to be all literal.
Semester 1: Begins May 11 - Complete Summer Term
Semester 2: Begins Aug 24 - Complete Fall Term
Semester 3: Begins Jan 5 - Complete Spring Term
Semester 4: Summer A&C Start May 9
I didn't look up when summer b starts, but is should start shortly after June 17

Thanks for the CPR suggestions...I will check them out.
On a similar note... if you don't have your immunization card don't wait. I am going to go ahead and redo mine since i can not track my card down. According to the nurse I spoke with you need a couple of months in order to get all of them in since some of them are a series. I did check and this is considerably cheaper than having my blood tested. In case anyone needs this here is the most current list I could find. Please post if you have a more current version
