UF Accelerated BSN, Summer 2018

U.S.A. Florida

Hi all!

It's pretty early on but I'd love to meet and chat with the potential applicants for this program. I also think it'd be great to have this forum in case we stumble upon application questions and such. Maybe some successful applicants in the past may pop in to say hello as well!

What are your feelings about this program or even UF in general? Are you applying to other programs? Where are you from?

Yes, his answers were clear, though not as detailed as I had hoped. I'm filling out the postbaccalaureate application as we speak...do you guys know if we are supposed to select Pre Health (PHPB) or Licensure/Certification? I couldn't find anything definitive on the website, but the pre-health webpage specifically speaks to dentistry and medicine, not the ASBN/other nursing programs. I'm going to mail the postbac application this week and request transcripts from my community college. Then we just have to wait for the CAS application to open up in August, right? I asked Kenneth about spots in Gainesville vs. Jacksonville and he said that would be on the CAS application.

@FLNurseA: I'm actually very confused about this too. Like the app. asks also about college (I put nursing) but also the department. So I'm confused what to select for those as well. Did you ask Kenneth yet, because I think I'm gonna email him about it.

@gskpriya96: You actually may want to fill out your application now to UF!! It is my understanding the you need to be accepted to the school first before we fill out the NursingCAS app to the specific program. If you have pre reqs, you can always send an updated transcript after those classes are done (I'm currently taking my last pre req as well).

ALRIGHT I EMAILED KENNETH!!!!

He Told me to do the following:

College: Nursing

Select one Option: Graduate Study Prereqs (not pre health, he didn't state why)

He didn't tell me what major department to choose though.

Both of you bring up a very good point. I will get started on the application soon. I am going to email him about what we should select, whether it is the licensure/certification or PHPB. And from what I found out there is supposedly a no preference option, meaning you do not mind which campus you will be going to, on the NursingCas website..

@gskpriya96

Look at my post before yours!!! :-) I asked him this morning and he told me to pick graduate studyprereqs. I'm a little confused by this thought.

And really? I read past forums for UF and it sounded like they got to specify, but of course this could change!!!

BTW, if you guys are bored right now, it seems you can actually start working on your NursingCAS application. UF's doesn't open for a bit of course, but there's a lot to fill out. So it may help to have the app filled out, so that when August 1st rolls around we can just submit! :-)

Woah! Wait... the application is available :o! And yeah you can specify which college you want or choose the other option I think. And Okay that sounds good, I guess I can understand why because this program is kinda considered Graduate level I guess..?

Yeah it seems to be (probably because other programs are accepting applications right now).

I think you could simply fill it out and then once UF opens, we can select and submit the app for it! It requires you to input your grades for courses one by one as well so that took me about an hour alone to do, so I think it would help to fill it out ahead of time (and hopefully my stuff will not be deleted!).

And oh I actually agree with that! I'm in grad school right now, but the curriculum for the nursing program is much, much more rigorous. The most number of credits I've taken so far (not including nursing pre reqs) is only 10 for the graduate courses which is light compared to the ABSN.

BTW, out of curiosity what are all of your plans after achieving an RN? :-)

Oh thats nice! What is your major in grad school? And with the application, it has already saved some of my old info as I used it for the traditional BSN Application. After my RN, i might work and then try to pursue a DNP degree, or go straight to DNP program.. I dont know, we will see haha.

Cell & Molecular Biology! I want to work in oncology, so it was a great way to further my education. I was going to do a Post Bacc. and take my nursing pre reqs and a few classes I was interested in, but getting a degree for the work seemed like a better idea, LOL!

And thats awesome, so you have a headstart! Where did you apply of the traditional? A DNP would be great, do you want to teach at some point?

Since I will have a degree in Health Education, I hope to include education while being a nurse and if that goes well I might consider teaching but as of now I want to be a pediatric nurse. And I applied to UF for the traditional as well

That would be awesome! Education is crucial in being a nurse and the background will certainly help I think. :-)

Hopefully with this I can enhance my essay for the apolication!! So what are your plans after RN? :)
