Hey y'all! Who's applying to UF's ABSN program? Go Gators! :)
kmcnally,
Before I applied, I asked him if my app would be automatically disqualified for not meeting the minimum GRE requirements and he said: "Your application to the program will not be automatically disqualified as long as we have a complete application package for the program"
Like I said in another post, I think some schools are putting less emphasis on the scores and are looking at the overall performance of the applicant. Now, in schools where the applicant pool is much, much higher, I'm sure these scores are used as a filter. Just my two cents....
I totally agree! I don't think a test should define the type of student you are. You can be the "perfect" student and just be a bad test taker. Over the summer, I literally studied 500 vocab words that could be on the GRE and I guess I was considered lucky that about 20 of them showed up...still kicked my ass though lol
HEB BS is very applicable in nursing...I was actually thinking of getting certified but I'm not sure ($$$) . You can def become a clinical leader with that type of background, that's what my supervisor is (RN/Educator).
Yea, I was looking at last years thread and actually saved the link for petition...but I REALLY hope I don't have to use it. I never thought to petition when I originally applied for the general BSN, but I don't believe I was as qualified as I am now. HEB saved my gpa lol
Yeah I'm CHES certified and I'm going to keep it up so if I ever want to be a nurse educator I can.
Ali- I've looked into their program and may apply; my second choice is actually University of South Alabama, it's a 12 month program with a bridge into the msn program, you can also get instate tuition relatively easy. UF is obviously my first choice, but Alabama is my 2nd and then I'll probably apply to remington if none of the options I've applied to work out. The only thing is their regional accredidation; someone told me if you want to go on to a DNP program, you can only go to a private school because of Remington's accredidation. It's something you should ask the admissions coordinator there to make sure, unless you only want to be an RN. I want to be a Pediatric NP so that concerns me and I'd have to look into it more.
Thanks for the response about Remington GatorLove! I plan on becoming an FNP so I'll definitely be sure to check on this, but hopefully I won't even have to go there if UF sides with me :).
Mr. Foote contacted me about missing transcripts on Feb.5th and I had to take them physically to his office because there was some electronic transmission issue. Did anyone else have this issue? It made me a little hopeful because he said the apps were with the Admissions Review Committee then and they were asking for the transcripts with proof of some completed pre-reqs.
Thanks kmcnally! I planned to apply to USF too, but didn't think I stood a chance with just GRE scores and GPA alone. I also took the TEAS for UCF, but scored 1 point below the minimum requirement so they wouldn't allow me to apply. I was a little upset, but not too upset because u had to pay $90 for a background check as part of the app process...ridiculous!

Yes I did apply last year and did not get in...I'm almost 100% positive it was my gre scores, I had the scores in math but not verbal (which is weird because I have always been better in verbal than math!!)...I think each year it depends on the applicant pool so maybe if this year, a lot of people don't have the gre scores, it leaves us with a better and equal chance! It's actually a relief to read that people didn't score high on the gre lol! It's sad because I'm a very dedicated, hard working, and smart student but that verbal section is just killer and shouldn't define us as individuals or great students.
Deejgator- I'm an HEB alumn! I received masters in health education and behavior and I LOVED HEB and it's very applicable to the nursing profession or at least the masters program was. My undergrad degree was in health science, it's part of the same college as the college of nursing.
