2014 UF Accelerated BSN Applicants

U.S.A. Florida

Hey y'all! Who's applying to UF's ABSN program? Go Gators! :)

Hi CrisCross - since it's not required, I wouldn't risk weighing yourself down with the extra course and potentially letting your actual pre-reqs suffer. I'm not planning to take it because I don't want it to take time away from my other pre-reqs.

So glad a thread is already up!

I have a bachelors and a masters from UF. My masters degree is between a 3.6-3.7...I have taken all of the pre reqs a while ago as well as a graduate level epidemiology class. I applied to this program right out of undergrad- did not get in...and also while conpleting my masters degree- and did not get in. I have a lot of service and volunteer experience but I think it came down to my gre score- math I was fine but verbal I missed by a couple points. This summer I became CPR and first aid certified as well as obtained a cna license and am in the process of finding a job. I'm hoping with the added experience, better letters of Rec, an actual finished masters degree, and hopefully a higher gre score, there will be no way to deny me. Third times a charm right? Ugh I hope.

Hi all! I'm thinking about applying to the program but I'm super nervous. My gpa from my bachelors degree is just a hair over a 3.0 and I am just now about to start volunteering in a hospital. Ive recieved A's in Anatomy physiology I, human nutrition, and Microbiolgy. I'm also about to start an accelerated cna training course but I'm afraid this is all too little too late. I'm hoping to rock the gre and write an impressive personal statement to make up for my low gpa. So nervous but hoping for the best!

Hi CrisCross - I'm currently in the Generic BSN program at UF and I was told last year by my advisor that UF doesn't offer the epidemiology course anymore so no one in my class took it. There were three transfer students so they may have at a different school, but everyone else was a current UF student and didn't take it.

Hi all! I was looking for some advice and was hoping someone would be kind to do so.

I am a Florida residnent, and planning on applying to the program. I started my pre-requisites this Fall, and I will be taking the rest through spring. I haven't taken my GRE yet, and would have to squeeze that in somehow before the December 15 deadline. I have a masters (11 years ago) in a completely unrelated field with a 3.7 GPA. My concern is that I am working full-time in my current profession, and doing school full-time as well, it has left me with no time to do any volunteer work, which I think would have helped with my application. Do I stand a chance if I apply? What do you guys think? Thanks for reading!

Application materials in and deadline is tomorrow. Anyone else applying for UF ABSN May 2014?

@nj01: I've spoken to ---- who is the Admissions Coordinator for the ABSN program at UF on several occasions. He said that UF does not require volunteering and that they've had plenty of people accepted to the program without having any bedside experience. It was a relief to know that since I also work full time, am taking pre-reqs and am married with two young children! I hope you applied because I think you absolutely stand a chance. When I turned my application into --- he said we can expect to hear by the end of February. Fingers crossed for everyone!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to pop in here and introduce myself! My name is Mike and I too applied to the 2014 UF Accelerated Nursing program. I received my BA in Political Science from UCF in 2011. My original plan was to attend law school, but my hereditary kidney condition progressed and I decide a career in nursing would be a better choice. I'm currently on dialysis and awaiting a transplant. That's why I decided on a career path change. My undergrad GPA isn't so great, but my prereq GPA has been pretty good. I scored a 152 Verbal and a 153 Quantitative on the GRE. I volunteer with Shepherd's Hope clinics here in Orlando. I'm hoping that will guarantee me a spot in the 2014 program!

Good luck to everyone! I was told to expect a letter sometime in February. :)

Hi Mike!

Nice to meet you! Your story is inspirational and I wish you all the luck. I also heard we will hear in February- it's getting close! Good luck!!!

Hey everyone! I have a friend who spoke to the admissions coordinator this week and he said he was going through the applications one final time, then sending them up for committee review. Shouldn't be long, now!

Hi! I also am a 2014 applicant:) I was wondering how I can expect to be notified on my admissions decision?? I recently moved and was wondering if it will come in the mail as well as email or just one or the other? Thanks drad for the info!

UFEC- typically you are notified by a letter in the mail or so it has been that way in the past. No emails or calls.
