Hey all!
I wanted to start an offical thread for those applying to UF's accelerated BSN for the Summer of 2021! I know its still pretty early but I thought we could use this platform to support one another and share our own journeys through this process.
I am pretty nervous for this process. However, UF's hollistic approach toward each of its applicants gives me hope and reassurance.
Just a little about myself
I am currently finishing my last semester at USF. My last 60 hr credit GPA is pretty average as per UF's usual standards standing at about a 3.4. My cumulative is not too great so hopefully I am not penalized for having a low overall GPA. I have research experience and a publication to my name so hopefully that may hold some weight. Besides that, I have a lot of various volunteer experiences that are non-health care related.
I was specifically curious to know how much weight health care experience holds for admissions. I worked as a scribe for about one year where I was able to gain perspective into the nursing field eventually influencing my decision to pursue nursing. Besides that, I don't really have very much experience working directly with nurses or CNA's for that matter.
I was also curious to know more about the HESI A2 test if anyone knows more about that.
I would love to hear about everyone elses stats and experiences, how you are going about the admissions process in general.
Good luck to everyone applying this cycle!
I never even saw that email. I didn’t know UF had an ABSN at Jax until October. I was getting ready to apply at Georgia Southern and then UNF. You can only take the HESI every 30 days and I had to teach myself A&P II cause I hadn’t taken it yet. That’s my last pre-req I’m taking now. So I knew I had to give it all I had because I had one shot. I think I took it the day before it was due. I had to drive to St. Augustine and be a birthing partner for my best friend, do a thanksgiving dinner for 15 people, and cram for bio & anatomy all in a week. I almost died. ? I really think the internship and all that will help. From what I’ve seen they like a background in education, every past teacher I’ve seen has gotten in. The fact that yours if health education will probably be even more of a strength for you. My background is secondary math education and food service/bartending. I always did both. It kinda sucks that we’re all going up against each other. Like we’re each other’s competition. I hope we all get admitted. There’s clearly a lot of other applicants because the people that talk on here aren’t even enough to fill the program. I’ve got all of you guys in my prayers though for a positive outcome!
Thank you, Lauren for your words of comfort. ❤️ Yeah, that email was sent sometime last year, IDK how to upload a screenshot, but maybe check your inbox again. I freaked out so bad when I saw the retraction email saying we can only take the HESI one time for this cycle, urghhh!! That’s crazy you took the exam the day before it was due!! That was risky, but you nailed it especially with so much you had going on, phew!! That’s awesome that you have a background in math! I know you had mentioned you have an MBA, so was math your undergrad degree? Either way, that’s awesome. With an MBA, you can easily get into management after you’re done with your RN. I took A&PII online and I found it to be a nightmare! I passed with a C+, but it was a lot of grinding. Online labs are not easy for me and I’m hoping that these nursing classes are in person. Then again, wouldn’t surprise me if they’re not since Covid is still around, urggghhh...... I wish you the best with A&PII, I know you’re gonna nail it! If I can pass it, anyone can, LOL!! And, maybe once we’re all done with this program, you can use your bartending skills to make us all a drink because I know we’re gonna need it after nursing school, hahha! ? Yeah, the whole competition thing sucks, but I wanna be here to support everyone. I’m praying for you and for everyone else that’s wants in. I’ll be praying for us all receive good news this Friday.

Hope everyone’s doing good. ? I was wondering if anyone knows who grades our applications on the nursing committee? Is it the professors in the program?
I think the admissions committee is made up of professors. I know professors have to give approval. Has anyone been in contact with -----------------------? Just curious if she’s let anyone know whether or not decisions are going to come out tomorrow? I saw in some posts from prior years where she let people know who had emailed her. I just don’t wanna be the one to email her. ?
Hey Lauren,
I was told ------------------------ is out on maternity leave so -------------------------- from the traditional BSN program is filling in temporarily. I did speak with him this week and he said we’ll either know this Friday or next Friday. He said if they’re lucky to get everything done this week, we’ll know by tomorrow, but he said it could also be next Friday. Let’s pray these professors choose all our applications ???
I hear ya..... My stress and anxiety has got me all kinds of messed up. I saved my rejection email from 2 years ago and have prepared myself mentally in case things do go south. Good luck to you as well and to everyone else in this thread. I am monitoring this discussion board daily, so let’s keep it active and continue supporting each other. We got this.
Alright ya’ll, this is it. Today’s the moment of truth on whether we know today or next Friday of our admissions status. Even if some of us are not admitted today or next Friday, don’t stop. Keep working hard and keep pushing forward because someone will say yes. Just keep banging on that door until someone lets you in. It’s okay to be down about it, but don’t be down there too long. Pick yourself back up; dust yourself off; and get back in the game because each and every one of us will become an extraordinary nurse. If I don’t get in, I will let you all know and will be of support if needed by those who are also not admitted. I wish everyone the best of luck and for those who are admitted, go and become badass nurses and represent everyone in this discussion board.

Thank you so much, Lauren! I’ve been reading over my application today and have been asking myself the same question in what areas are my strength. Yeah, I would also really like to know if each category is worth the same total number of points. It would really suck if some categories are higher than the other, I’ll be so devastated..... Like, I hope they make all areas equal, it only makes sense! Especially, if there’s a student with no medical experience but an outstanding HESI score will show their potential. I am grateful for my internship and finding a job as a health educator and hope it’s enough to outweigh my HESI. I really wanted to retake it, but when that second email was sent out saying we can only take it once, I was freaking ouuuuut! I wish they knew for sure before sending out that first email saying we can take it as many times as we want because that really messed me up....... Oh well, it’s done now. There’s no point for me to continue dwelling, urgghh....
